Vor der Tonne gerettet

... habe ich die Bluse doch noch. Ich war ja drauf und dran, sie wegzuwerfen, aber dann habe ich mich doch zusammengerissen. Sie ist tragbar, aber ich bin immer noch sauer auf mich selbst, dass ich die vorderen Passen vermurkst habe. Naja, das passiert mir bestimmt nicht noch einmal, jetzt wird das Teil erstmal abgehakt.

It wasn't much fun but I pulled myself together and did not throw the blouse out but finished it without the front yoke. It looks okay, it is wearable but I am still mad at myself for messing it up. I guess I will just have to think it all the way through next time before cutting anything. Time to move on for now.

Mit einem Probemodell wäre das nicht passiert

Ich habe ja schon ewig kein Kleidungsstück mehr genäht, aber da hier noch einige Stoffe im Vorrat liegen, dachte ich vor ein paar Wochen, ich sollte es mal wieder versuchen. Quilten fällt mir einfach leichter und macht mir daher mehr Spaß. Das Nähen von Kleidung ist immer noch ein einziger Kampf, besonders mit meinen vielen Passformproblemen. Wenn ich nur einfach einen Schnitt nehmen und losnähen könnte...

Having not made a garment in a very long time I decided some weeks ago that I should give it another try. Quilting is more fun for me, it is easier and I don't have to think as much about what I am doing. Making clothes is still quite a struggle, especially with all my fitting problems. I wish I could just take a commercial pattern and start sewing... won't happen unless I don't care about the fit of the finished garment.

After lots of tweaking I had finally been satisfied with my blouse sloper and made a few nice-fitting blouses without muslins. That's why I decided to start with another blouse. I looked through a few of my old Burda magazines for interesting details to add and found a nice blouse with two pockets and a front yoke that was attached to the front piece and the bottom parts doubled as flaps for the pockets.

Mit meinem Blusengrundschnitt war ich ja nach vielen, vielen Änderungen schließlich zufrieden und hatte danach auch ein paar Blusen genäht, die ohne Probemodell gut saßen. Daher war es naheliegend, wieder mit einer Bluse zu beginnen. In einem alten Burda Heft habe ich eine Bluse gefunden mit zwei Brusttaschen und vorderer Passe, wobei die unteren Teile der Passe gleichzeitig als Taschenklappen dienten.

Natürlich war ich zu faul, um mit dem Grundschnitt zu beginnen, ich hatte einfach keine Lust, stundenlang zu schneiden und zu kleben, um die Abnäher zu verlegen. Also habe ich einen Blusenschnitt mit rückwärtiger Passe genommen, bei dem die Abnäher schon an der richtigen Stelle saßen. Allerdings war bei dem Schnitt die Knopfleiste angeschnitten, was für die neue Bluse wegen der vorderen Passe nicht ging. Um es kurz zu machen, aufgrund eines dummen Denkfehlers habe ich die Blende an der falschen Stelle vom Vorderteil getrennt. Wann mir das aufgefallen ist? Als ich den Kragen ansetzen wollte, der natürlich überhaupt nicht gepasst hat.

Lazy that I am I decided not to work from the sloper because that would involve a lot of cutting and taping while moving the darts but chose my blouse pattern with a back yoke instead where all the darts were already in the right places. But for that blouse I had cut the front and placket in one piece which was not possible for this project because of the front yoke. To cut a long story short - I made a stupid mistake and cut off the placket piece in a wrong spot. And of course I didn't notice until I tried to attach the collar which didn't fit at all. Argh!

I had had doubts about the position of the breast pockets but I thought this was just my obsession with symmetry. I probably should have made a muslin or at least checked the neckline against the sloper. Well, next time I will do that but for now it won't do me any good as I am out of fabric. I can probably save the blouse by cutting off the excess fabric at the center front but the front yoke/pocket flap detail will have to go because I would have to cut these pieces again and I can't. Stupid me :(

Ich hatte mich schon ein bißchen über die Position der Brusttaschen gewundert, die mir etwas sehr zur vorderen Mitte hin erschien. Aber ich dachte, das liegt nur daran, dass ich so symmetriebesessen bin, also habe ich mich damit nicht weiter beschäftigt. Ein Probemodell hätte das verhindert, oder ich hätte wenigstens den Halsausschnitt mit dem Grundschnitt abgleichen sollen. Naja, nächstes Mal, für diese Bluse hilft mir das leider gar nicht mehr, da der Stoff alle ist. Ich denke, ich kann das Teil noch vor der Tonne retten, indem ich die Blenden wieder abtrenne und an der vorderen Mitte abschneide, was zuviel ist. Aber auf die vorderen Passen/Taschenklappen muss ich leider verzichten, denn die müsste ich komplett neu zuschneiden, was ich aus Stoffmangel leider nicht kann. Dumm, dumm, dumm :(

In Rekordzeit fertiggestellt

... habe ich die letzte Bluse. Genau eine Woche nach dem Stoffkauf war der letzte Knopf angenäht. Ich bin beeindruckt :) Und nein, sie sitzt nicht so schrecklich an mir wie an Marcy, an mir sitzt sie prima. Diese Schrägzüge, die sich bei Marcy immer bilden, zeigen sich am lebenden Modell nicht.

I finished the last blouse in record time. Exactly one week after the fabric purchase it was all done. I am impressed :) And no, the fit is not that bad in reality, this is just Marcy who shouldn't wear this blouse. The drag lines are not visible when I wear it.

Zugeschnitten ist schon mal

Nachdem die Blusennäherei gerade so gut läuft, habe ich beschlossen, den Blümchenstoff vom letzten Wochenende auch noch schnell in eine Bluse zu verwandeln. Für schnörkelreiche Details bin ich ja nicht so zu haben, weniger ist in meinem Augen meist mehr, also habe ich Ärmel und Kragen von der letzten Bluse übernommen und statt Abnähern diesmal Wiener Nähte gemacht.

As I was having a run with sewing blouses I decided to use that energy and turn last weekend's purchase into a blouse as well. I am not very fond of ruffles and frills, I usually think that less is more. Therefore I took the collar and sleeves from the last blouse I made and altered the darts into princess seams.

Auch fertig

... ist die zweite Bluse. Mit den Ärmeln bin ich jetzt tatsächlich zufrieden! Und ich habe Ankes Vorgabe erfüllt: Nur wer mindestens einen Stoff vom letzten Stoffmarkt verarbeitet hat, darf auf dem nächsten Markt (in zehn Tagen) neuen Stoff kaufen :)

I finished the second blouse this morning and believe it or not I am really happy with the sleeves. And I met Anke's requirement: The next fabric market is in ten days, and you only get to buy new fabric if you used at least one of your purchases from the last market :)
I noticed this morning that I made a huge mistake with the cuffs of the pink floral blouse: buttons and buttonholes are on the wrong sides. I know that I checked it several times but obviously didn't pay attention when I finally stitched the buttonholes. At first I thought I could just take the cuffs off and use each of them for the other sleeve but I figured it would be faster and look better to just cut new ones and completely redo them. Now I know what I can do tonight :(

Allerdings habe ich mit Entsetzen festgestellt, dass ich bei der Blümchenbluse an den Ärmelmanschetten Knöpfe und Knopflöcher jeweils seitenverkehrt angebracht habe. Ich hatte zwar noch dreimal überprüft, ob es auch richtig ist, aber im entscheidenden Moment muss ich total geschlafen haben. Zuerst dachte ich, ich könnte eventuell die Manschetten einfach abtrennen und an den jeweils anderen Ärmel nähen, aber komplett neu zuschneiden und nähen dürfte schneller gehen und ordentlicher aussehen. Da weiß ich ja, was ich heute abend tun kann :(

Und weil es so gut geklappt hat

... gibt es gleich die nächste Bluse hinterher, diesmal mit dem blauen Blumenstoff vom letzten Stoffmarkt. Der Schnitt ist der gleiche wie bei der letzten Bluse, um etwas Abwechslung hereinzubringen habe ich lediglich eine rückwärtige Passe hinzugefügt und statt eines einfachen Liegekragens einen Kragen mit Steg gewählt. Und am Ärmel habe ich noch ein bißchen gebastelt, vielleicht bin ich ja jetzt mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden.

I started working on the next blouse right away, this time I chose the blue cotton floral I bought at the last fabric market. The pattern is the same I used for the last blouse, I just added a yoke and a two-piece collar. And I altered the sleeve cap just a tiny bit, I really hope this will be the final alteration.


I did not make a muslin this time but cut into the cotton floral right away. Moving darts is really easy, and to get a yoke I just had to move the shoulder dart into the yoke seam. The collar is borrowed from the blue pleated blouse. Finally all the work I put into pattern drafting starts to pay off. As long as I don't alter the neckline I can use any collar I ever drafted for my blouse.

Auf ein Probemodell habe ich verzichtet und mutig gleich den Blumenstoff zugeschnitten. Das Drehen von Abnähern klappt nach Müller & Sohn immer gut, und im Grunde ist die Passennaht ja auch nichts anders als ein gedrehter Schulterabnäher. Und den Kragen habe ich von der blauen Faltenbluse übernommen. Langsam fängt die viele Arbeit mit der Schnittkonstruktion an sich auszuzahlen. Solange ich am Halsausschnitt nichts ändere, kann ich die Kragen unbesehen übernehmen.

Fast gar nichts zu meckern

... habe ich an der fertigen Bluse. Mit dem Ärmel bin ich immer noch nicht ganz zufrieden, aber ansonsten ist sie toll geworden und sitzt gut.

I am almost completely happy with the finished blouse. The sleeve cap still needs a tiny bit of tweaking but otherwise I really love it and the fit is great.

Nur ein halbes Probemodell

Vorder- und Rückenteil des Blusenschnitts basieren auf meiner alten Lieblings-Burda-Bluse 2561, die ich gleich als erstes aus dem Grundschnitt erstellt hatte. Ein Probemodell brauchte ich im Grunde nur für die neue Ärmel- und Armlochkonstruktion. Bei Terri bin ich auf eine gute Idee gestoßen: Ich habe nur ein halbes Probemodell genäht. Das ist sicher nicht hilfreich, wenn man den gesamten Sitz beurteilen will, aber wenn es nur darum geht, ob der Ärmel faltenfrei ins Armloch passt, ist es optimal.

Front and back of the blouse pattern are based on my favorite Burda WOF blouse No 2561. This was the first pattern I drafted after I had finished the sloper. I needed the musling to check the new sleeve and armscye, so I only made half a muslin like Terri did in one of her last posts. This is probably not helpful if you need to check the fit of the whole blouse but since I only needed to see if I could set in the sleeve without wrinkles it was a fast and easy muslin.

The picture is really bad, the fit of the sleeve is not visible since Marcy has no arm to fill the sleeve. In reality it looks much better than my last try. The fabric I used for the muslin is rather stiff so I hope that the smooth blouse fabric will work well.

Auf dem Bild lässt sich natürlich überhaupt nichts erkennen, da Marcy leider keinen Arm hat, aber der Ärmel sieht deutlich besser aus als der letzte Versuch. Der Probestoff ist auch eher fest und unnachgiebig, ich hoffe, dass es mit dem richtigen Blusenstoff dann gut klappt und lege jetzt einfach mal los.

Noch mehr Ärmelbastelei

Am Blusengrundschnitt habe ich Ärmel und Armloch nochmals überarbeitet, nachdem ich die Ärmel bei der letzten Bluse nicht faltenfrei einsetzen konnte. Ich habe mich bemüht, die Einhalteweite so klein wie möglich zu halten, was mir aber nicht wirklich gelungen ist. Allerdings glaube ich, dass es weniger an der Einhalteweite an sich als an der Verteilung der Weite lag. Im Jacken-Buch von Müller & Sohn ist eine gute Anleitung enthalten, wie genau die Weite am besten verteilt wird. Das hat beim Jackenschnitt gut funktioniert, also habe ich es einfach auf die Bluse übertragen. Mal sehen, ob es klappt. Als nächstes folgt das obligatorische Probemodell.

I redrafted armscye and sleeve for my blouse sloper after having problems with setting in the sleeves without wrinkles. I tried to come up with a sleeve that has just the minimum amount of width to ease in but I was not really successful. But I think the width itself was probably not the problem. It is more a question of where to ease in what amount. The book on drafting jackets and coats has good instructions how to do that. It worked well with the jacket pattern so I decided to try this method for the blouse as well. We will see how that works out. The mandatory muslin is next.

Bluse mit Falten

Die Bluse ist fertig und passt auch gut zum Rock. Den habe ich leider immer noch nicht gesäumt, so dass es noch kein Foto der fertigen Kombination gibt.

I finished the blouse last night, and it goes well with the skirt. I didn't hem that yet, so there is no picture available of skirt and blouse together.

It fits well, constructing the sloper was really the most difficult part. The alterations for the pattern details are a lot of fun and work well so far. I am just not satisfied with the sleeves. I didn't change the cap or armhole but I somehow couldn't set in the sleeves smoothly although it worked well with the last blouse.

Die Passform ist gut, das Schwierigste an der Konstruktion war wirklich der Grundschnitt, die Detailänderungen machen echt Spaß und klappen gut. Allerdings bin ich mit den Ärmeln nicht zufrieden. Armkugel und Armloch habe ich nicht verändert, trotzdem ist es mir nicht gelungen, die Ärmel ohne Fältchen einzusetzen. Bei der letzten Bluse hat das noch problemlos geklappt.

Zum Glück sieht es an beiden Ärmeln gleich schrecklich aus, also tue ich jetzt so, als hätte ich die Ärmel absichtlich gekräuselt eingesetzt. Aber die Einhalteweite bei meinem Ärmel werde ich noch mal überarbeiten.

Since both sleeves look the same I decided to pretend I did it on purpose. But I will definitely try to reduce the sleeve caps before I try to make another blouse.

Blusenbastelei

Auf der Suche nach Ideen für eine Bluse fiel mir ein, dass ich in einer älteren Burda-Ausgabe mal einen Jackenschnitt gesehen hatte, der für mich eher wie eine Bluse aussah. Mit dem eigenen Grundschnitt ist das ja nun kein Problem mehr, also habe ich den Schnitt zur Orientierung herausgesucht und mich dann an wilde Faltenkonstruktionen gewagt.

I remembered a Burda WOF jacket pattern from a few years ago that I had always thought would make a nice blouse. I just never took the time to do the necessary alterations. It would be much easier with the sloper, so I dug out the pattern to see what the Burda pieces look like and then constructed my first pleats.

That was not very difficult either, just involves a little math and a lot of cutting and taping back together. There are five pleats in the front and three in the back on each side. I didn't dare omitting the muslin this time which was actually a good idea.

Auch das fand ich gar nicht so schwierig, ein bißchen Rechnen und Messen, und ziemlich viel Schneiden und Kleben. Am Vorderteil werden fünf Falten eingelegt, am Rückenteil auf jeder Seite nur drei. Hier war ich allerdings nicht wagemutig, ein Probemodell musste unbedingt her. Das war auch eine gute Idee, denn einiges habe ich noch geändert.

Zum einen war die Bluse zu lang, ich hatte auch vorher einige Länge zugegeben, weil ich mir nicht sicher war. Dann habe ich die Falten ein Stück weiter zugenäht als Burda. Ich finde, es sitzt so besser. Und ich habe beschlossen, dass mein Hohlkreuz unbedingt die zwei Abnäher auf jeder Seite braucht. Dieser Faltenkram am unteren Rücken ist absolut nichts für mich. Also mache ich mir die Sache einfach und nehme das Rückenteil von der letzten Bluse, da muss ich nur noch ein bißchen Länge zugeben, dann passt das.

The blouse was too long which was no surprise as I had added a lot of length just to be sure. Then I decided to stitch the pleats a few inches more than Burda, this gives the blouse a better fit in my opinion. And I didn't like the back at all. My sway back absolutely needs the two darts on each side, pleats in the lower back area look very weird on me. So I will just add a little length to the last blouse's back pattern and use that. Working with your own sloper makes it that easy.

I already added the collar and button band, constructing them wasn't difficult either. Now I just have to decide what kind of sleeves I want, then I can start cutting the fabric.

Die Knopfleiste und den Kragen habe ich auch schon konstruiert, das war auch nicht weiter schwierig. Jetzt muss ich mich bloß noch entscheiden, was ich mit den Ärmeln mache, dann kann es losgehen.

Sie passt!!!

Die Bluse ist fertig, und sie passt! Ich bin ganz begeistert. Die Blusen, die ich bisher genäht habe, waren zwar auch tragbar, aber das ist die erste, die auch am Rücken richtig sitzt. Nach den vielen Änderungen, bis der Grundschnitt endlich saß, ist jetzt auch klar, warum ich mit Fertigschnitten nie richtig glücklich geworden bin. So eine seltsame Rückenform muss man erstmal hinbekommen :) Jedenfalls habe ich mir gleich noch das Müller & Sohn-Buch über Jacken und Mäntel bestellt. Nachdem ich jetzt weiß, welche Änderungen ich im Rückenbereich vornehmen muss, sollte das kein Problem mehr werden.

The blouse is finished, and it fits! I am really happy with it. The blouses I made in the past were all wearable, but this is the only one that ever completely fit in the back. With my round back and sway back and protruding shoulder blades I had to make so many alterations to fit the sloper that it is no surprise that commercial patterns don't work for me. Anyway, I ordered the book on jacket and coat construction right away, the only one that was still missing in my collection. Now that I know what alterations I have to make, this shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Der Blusenschnitt

Am Rückenteil des Grundschnitts habe ich keine großen Änderungen vorgenommen, nur den einen Abnäher bis zum Saum verlängert. Beim Vorderteil hat der Grundschnitt ja einen Abnäher von der Schulternaht zum Brustpunkt. Die Burda-Bluse, die ich als Vorlage benutzt habe, hat nur einen Abnäher von der Taille zum Brustpunkt, dieser ist dafür aber ziemlich groß. Also habe ich den Abnäher von der Schulter in den Taillenabnäher hineingedreht und so auch einen ziemlich großen Abnäher erhalten. Die Sache erschien mir fast ein bißchen zu einfach, also habe ich lieber ein Probemodell genäht, man weiß ja nie.

The back of the sloper didn't need to be altered, I just lengthened the dart to reach the seamline. For the front, the shoulder dart had to be moved. The Burda pattern has just a vertical waist dart, but a rather huge one. I moved the shoulder dart into the waist dart and ended up with a big dart that looked just like the one in the Burda pattern. It almost seemed a little too easy, so I decided to make a muslin, just in case.

It turned out it actually was that easy, I just had to shorten the new dart a little, otherwise the fit was fine. Only the shoulder-sleeve-area looked weird to me. The sleeve I had constructed did fit the armhole, but somehow I didn't like it. It took some time but I finally figured out that the armhole was too small compared to the one in the Burda pattern. After I adjusted the armhole and sleeve cap it looked fine to me. My conclusion: I just needed a few minor alterations, and it was a lot less frustrating than altering a commercial pattern.

Es war aber tatsächlich so einfach, ich habe den Abnäher dann nur noch ein bißchen mehr verkürzt, ansonsten passte das Teil. Lediglich der Ärmel-Schulter-Bereich hat mir nicht gefallen. Meine Ärmelkonstruktion passte zwar in das Armloch, aber der Sitz war irgendwie komisch. Darüber habe ich eine ganze Weile gebrütet, bis mir schließlich auffiel, dass es am im Vergleich zum Burda-Schnitt zu engen Armloch lag. Also habe ich das Armloch so weit aufgelockert, dass es dem Burda-Schnitt vergleichbar war. Fazit: Es waren wirklich nur geringe Änderungen nötig, und der Frust-Faktor ist deutlich geringer als beim Ändern von kommerziellen Schnitten.

Der fertige Blusengrundschnitt

Beim Sternetreffen vor zwei Wochen hat sich Leo dann meines Blusengrundschnitts angenommen. Mit einem Blick erkannte sie das Problem und steckte einen zweiten Abnäher am Rücken ab. An Vorderteil und Schulterpartie hatte sie nichts auszusetzen, also habe ich es wohl ganz gut gemacht. Hat ja auch lange genug gedauert :)

At the retreat two weeks ago Leo took care of my sloper problem. She saw immediately that a second dart would be best for my sway back and quickly pinned it for me. She didn't make any changes to the front or the upper back area, so I guess I did good work there. Well, it took me long enough :)

My first project is to turn my cream-colored fabric market purchase into a blouse. I really like Burda 2561. That one is a few years old, and I don't know if it is still available. And since they changed their name to Burdastyle and completely overhauled their website I can't find anything there anymore. Anyway, it is a nice basic style blouse, and I have decided to try to make my own pattern for this blouse using my sloper. If I run into trouble, maybe I can cheat and compare it to the Burda pattern pieces.

Nähen will ich als erstes eine Bluse aus dem cremefarbenen Stoff vom letzten Stoffmarktbesuch. Sehr gern mag ich den alten Burda-Einzelschnitt 2561. Ob es den noch gibt, weiß ich gar nicht, und auf der Burda-Website finde ich nichts mehr, seit sie sich in Burdastyle umbenannt haben. Jedenfalls ist das ein guter Basisschnitt, und ich habe beschlossen, dass ich versuche, diesen aus meinem Grundschnitt herzustellen. Es ist doch immer ganz hilfreich, wenn man eine Vorlage hat, bei der man ein bißchen spicken kann.

Endlich fertig

Es war sehr mühsam, und es hat mir auch keinen Spaß gemacht, aber die Bluse ist endlich fertig. Ganz glücklich bin ich damit nicht, irgendwie sitzt sie ein bißchen komisch, aber so formlos und zerknittert wie auf dem Bild sieht sie in natura nicht aus, und zu dem Rock passt sie gut.

It was a very slow process, and I didn't have much fun but I finally finished the blouse. I am not completely happy with it, the fit is somehow not quite right but it doesn't look as bad as in the picture and it goes well with the skirt.

I decided that I will never again use a pattern from the new Burda WOF editorial staff, that was just too frustrating. Whether or not I will continue my subscription I don't know yet. I will keep it for now for inspiration but Burda keeps calling me, trying to sell stuff like fish oil capsules or to convince me that I just won a free trip to Turkey although I did not approve the use of my subscription data for commercial use. If they don't stop this they might lose me pretty soon.

Ich habe jedenfalls beschlossen, keine Burda-Schnittmuster mehr zu verwenden, die von der neuen Redaktion erstellt wurden. Das war mir jetzt zuviel Frust. Ob ich mein Abo behalte, weiß ich noch nicht. Zunächst wahrscheinlich schon, aber da mir Burda gerade mit Werbeanrufen auf die Nerven geht (nein, ich möchte keine Fischölkapseln bestellen, nein, ich möchte keine Reise in die Türkei gewinnen), obwohl ich der Nutzung meiner Daten für Werbezwecke widersprochen habe, könnte es sein, dass ich auch da bald die Nase voll habe.

Ansonsten lasse ich das Nähen von Kleidung jetzt erstmal. Gestern habe ich meine angefangenen Frühchenquilts aus dem Schrank geholt, vier Tops warten darauf, gequiltet zu werden. Das werde ich jetzt mal in Angriff nehmen.

I decided to stop the apparel sewing for now. I have four tops for quilts for preterm babies here that need to be quilted. I will try to do that this weekend.

And Anke told us today that we will not be able to go to the next Dutch fabric market in Potsdam because we will be in Wahlsdorf on that date, and I only have two fabrics in my stash that are suitable for winter clothes. I am not going to make any more summer clothes, the weather was terrible today. Well, I guess I could always drive to Hüco... :-)

Nachdem Anke uns nun gerade eröffnet hat, dass wir im November gar nicht zum Stoffmarkt in Potsdam können, weil an dem Wochenende Zicken-Treffen in Wahlsdorf ist, habe ich sowieso nur zwei wintergeeignete Stoffe hier. Und Sommersachen nähe ich nicht mehr, heute war das Wetter ja ziemlich furchtbar. Naja, wenn alle Stricke reißen, könnte ich natürlich auch zu Hüco fahren... :-)

Kellerfalten der Burda-Bluse

Am Wochenende hatte ich mich soweit beruhigt, dass ich tatsächlich die Bluse mal zugeschnitten und mit dem Nähen begonnen habe. Der Stoff ist der in dem Beige-Ton, den ich schon mit dem Gedanken gekauft habe, ihn mit dem Pünktchenstoff zu kombinieren.

This weekend I had finally overcome my frustrations with the Burda WOF pattern. I cut the pieces for the blouse and started sewing. The fabric is the tan one I bought at the fabric market with the intention of somehow combining it with the dotted fabric.

I am not sure about the box pleats yet. Burda's instructions called for a few hand stitches at the beginning and the end, leaving the part in between open. Maybe this looks nice as long as I don't move but otherwise I don't like the look at all. I might just stitch the whole pleat closed and check if I like the result better.


Ob ich allerdings die Kellerfalten so lasse, wie sie nach der Burda-Anleitung geworden sind, weiß ich noch nicht. Sie sind nur oben und unten durch je einen handgenähten Riegel fixiert. Im "Ruhezustand" sieht das ja vielleicht ganz nett aus, aber bei der kleinsten Bewegung springt die Mitte auf, und ich finde nicht, dass das schön aussieht. Vielleicht nähe ich das ganze Stück mal mit der Maschine zu und gucke, ob mir das besser gefällt.

Frust mit Burda

Die Burda-Bluse hat mich am Sonntag wirklich frustriert. Ich habe ja schon eine Menge Burda-Schnitte genäht und weiß mittlerweile, mit welcher Größe ich anfange und wo ich ändern muss. Aber diesmal hat das überhaupt nicht geklappt. Das Probemodell war im Brustbereich viel zu weit, in der Taille einigermaßen passend und in der Hüfte viel zu eng. Außerdem war die Schulter zu breit. Ich habe gestern geändert, geändert und nochmal geändert. Das Rückenteil hat ganz gut gepasst, aber das Vorderteil war eine Katastrophe.

I am really frustrated with the Burda blouse pattern. I have sewn a lot of Burda patterns, and I think I now which size to start with and where I have to alter. But yesterday, my usual method didn't work at all. The muslin was much too wide in the bust area, about okay in the waist area and way too tight around the hips. And the shoulder was too wide, too. I altered and altered and altered the whole day. The back was quite okay, but the front was just a disaster.

I was reminded of the problems I ran into with the Ottobre dress, I had to do the same alterations there. I wonder if maybe Burda WOF changed something? They changed their complete editorial staff this year, and maybe they work with different slopers or methods of pattern constructions? It is really strange that I never encountered these problems with Burda before. I took my measurements again, but these didn't change.

Ich fühlte mich sehr an die Probleme mit dem Ottobre-Kleid erinnert, da musste ich genau die gleichen Änderungen an den gleichen Stellen durchführen. Jetzt habe ich mich gefragt, ob das vielleicht an Burda liegt? Eventuell arbeitet die neue Redaktion mit anderen Grundschnitten/anderen Konstruktionsmethoden? Ist schon merkwürdig, dass ich mit Burda bisher nie diese Probleme hatte. Jedenfalls habe ich mich gleich nochmal ausgemessen, aber die Maße haben sich nicht verändert, daran kann es also nicht liegen.

Am besten, ich höre jetzt auf zu jammern und sehe zu, dass endlich mein Blusengrundschnitt fertig wird. Wenn ich die Arbeit, die ich gestern in die Änderung des Burda-Schnittes investiert habe, in die beiden letzten Falten am Rücken gesteckt hätte, wäre das Teil vermutlich fertig. Aber jetzt gehe ich erstmal und versuche, einen Büffel für den Yellowstone-Quilt zu zeichnen. Auf die Bluse habe ich gerade gar keine Lust mehr.

I guess I will have to stop whining now and start some serious work on my blouse sloper. If I had put yesterday's amount of work on the pattern alterations into the sloper it would probably be finished by now. But now I will go and try to draw a buffalo block for my Yellowstone Quilt. I am really fed up with the blouse right now.

Bluse 130 aus Burda 08/2009 (jedenfalls fast)

Nach einer geeigneten Bluse musste ich gar nicht lange suchen. In der aktuellen Burda gefällt mir Modell 130. Leider ist das Bild auf der Burda Website unmöglich, man kann nichts erkennen, und eine technische Zeichnung gibt es auch nicht. Die Bluse hat vorne Teilungsnähte und in der Taille vorne und hinten Kellerfalten. Die langen Ärmel wollte ich nicht, also kombiniere ich lieber die Ärmel von Modell 129 dazu (das sowieso auf dem gleichen Schnitt beruht).

I found a blouse pattern (No. 130) that I like in the current issue of Burda WOF. Unfortunately the picture on the Burda website it really terrible, the details cannot be seen, and they don't provide a technical drawing. The blouse has shoulder princess seams in the front and box pleats in the waist area both in the front and the back. I did not want long sleeves so I decided to use the sleeves of bluse No. 129 (which is the same pattern anyway).

The blouse has a yoke in the back which made me wonder how to make my very round back alteration. "Fit for Real People" suggest adding length to the center back tapering to nothing towards the seamline.

Hinten hat die Bluse eine Passe. Jetzt stand ich vor dem Problem, wie ich diese am besten an meinen runden Rücken anpasse. "Fit for Real People" schlägt vor, an Passe und Rückenteil keilförmig etwas zuzugeben.

Das habe ich aber schon einmal probiert und war mit dem Ergebnis gar nicht zufrieden. Ich brauche nicht nur mehr Länge im oberen Rücken, sondern auch mehr Platz für meine hervorstehenden Schulterblätter. Also habe ich erstmal so getan, als ob gar keine Passe da wäre und eine ganz normale Änderung für den runden Rücken gemacht.
Well, I tried that before but was not really happy with the result. I don't just need more length in the upper back area but also more room for my protruding shoulder blades. So I pretended the pattern didn't have a yoke at all and did my normal alteration for a very round back.

This is also what my sloper would look like if I ever got that finished. Then I followed the instructions in my book on blouses and dresses how to construct a yoke. I made a perpendicular cut from the center back to the point of the dart, then the dart is closed by moving the pattern piece upwards. The yoke piece is cut all the way to the armhole, the seam line of the back pattern piece is adjusted a little. Thas was actually very easy to do although my pattern pieces looked pretty wild after that.

So in etwa würde ja auch mein Grundschnitt aussehen, wenn ich den endlich mal fertig bekäme. Dann bin ich der Anleitung im Blusen-und-Kleider-Buch zur Erstellung einer Passe gefolgt. Von der rückwärtigen Mitte wird rechtwinklig bis zum Abnäher eingeschnitten, dann wird dieser zugedreht. Die Passe wird dann bis zum Armloch abgetrennt, die Nahtlinie des Rückenteils etwas ausgeglichen. Das war eigentlich ganz einfach, auch wenn meine Schnitteile hinterher ziemlich wild aussahen.

Das Papiermodell sieht aber ganz vielversprechend aus. Allerdings liegt am Vorderteil die Kellerfalte direkt über der Teilungsnaht, was mit Papier und Stecknadeln schlecht zu realisieren war. Ein Probemodell muss also auch diesmal wieder her. Außerdem scheint mir der Brustbereich etwas zu weit zu sein.

The paper model looks promising. The box pleat in the front is directly on the princess seam, this was very difficult to do with paper and pins, so I guess I will have to make a muslin anyway. And I am a little concerned about the bust area, the pattern seems to be rather wide there.

Ärmelkonstruktion

Im Moment geht es bei mir ziemlich drunter und drüber, und ich bin ein bißchen durch den Wind, daher kommen Nähen und Bloggen zur Zeit ein bißchen kurz. Am Wochenende habe ich aber etwas an meinem Grundschnitt gepuzzelt. Ich erspare Euch die Details, ich habe ziemlich viel herumprobiert, bin jetzt aber doch zu einem Ergebnis gekommen, das ganz akzeptabel aussieht.

A few unpredictable things are happening in my life right now, and I am a little out of sorts at the moment. Not much time is left for sewing and blogging. But this weekend I did some work on my sloper. I will not explain in detail what I did, it was quite a lot of trial and error and not very interesting. But I finally came up with a pattern that seems to be acceptable.

Yesterday I tried to construct a sleeve. Now that was pretty exciting. I loved how all those criss-cross lines on my paper actually turned into a sleeve pattern. I folded the paper sleeve according to "Fit for Real People", and it fits very well! I was really happy about that although I took me two tries. I followed every detail of the construction process in the book and came up with a sleeve that was much too wide and had a rather flat cap.

Gestern habe ich dann mal versucht, einen Ärmel zu konstruieren. Das war richtig spannend! Ich fand es faszinierend, wie aus den vielen Linien, die kreuz und quer verliefen, dann schließlich doch noch ein Ärmel wurde. Und als Papiermodell sitzt der toll! Das ist ein richtiges Erfolgserlebnis, wenn auch erst im zweiten Versuch. Dass es beim ersten Mal nicht geklappt hat, war aber nicht meine Schuld. Sonst bin ich von Müller & Sohn ja begeistert, aber bei der Ärmelanleitung muss ich mal meckern.

Ich bin ganz artig Schritt für Schritt nach Anleitung vorgegangen und hatte am Schluss einen Ärmel, der viel zu weit war. Dafür sah die Kugel recht flach aus. Auf der Suche nach einer Lösung habe ich dann das nächste Kapitel gelesen, und dort stand dann, dass man bei der Ärmelkonstruktion bereits ganz am Anfang zwei Maße in ein ganz bestimmtes Verhältnis zueinander bringen muss, damit Ärmelbreite und Kugelhöhe am Schluss sinnvolle Werte ergeben. Das hätten sie bei der Konstruktion nicht erwähnt, um Anfänger nicht zu verwirren. Toll, ich war zwar nicht verwirrt, konnte aber den Ärmel wegwerfen und neu beginnen. Aber egal, jetzt hat es ja geklappt, und ich werde das Ergebnis nun in Stoff umsetzten und sehen, ob ich dann mit dem Grundschnitt zufrieden bin.

Looking for a solution I read the next chapter in my book and found out that right in the beginning of the construction process I was supposed to check two measurements because these had to be in a certain relation to each other to come up with a reasonable sleeve width and cap height. They wrote in the book they didn't mention it earlier during the instructions because they didn't want to confuse beginners. Well, duh! Maybe I wasn't confused but I had to throw out my first sleeve construction and start all over again. But I like my second version and will make it from fabric to see if I am satisfied with the sloper now.

Probemodell für den Blusengrundschnitt

Mit dem Probemodell für den Blusengrundschnitt bin ich überhaupt nicht zufrieden, aber ich habe wieder etwas gelernt. Die Schulterbreite ergibt sich bei der Konstruktion aus der Rückenbreite. Und durch meinen breiten Rücken haben sich beim Schnitt jetzt auch breite Schultern ergeben, die ich aber gar nicht habe. Die Ärmelansatznaht hängt jetzt viel zu weit über dem Oberarm. Naja, muss ich eben nochmal basteln gehen. Ansonsten sieht es aber schon ganz gut aus.

My blouse sloper still needs some work. The muslin doesn't fit very well, and I realized that the shoulder width depends on the back width. And since my upper back is rather broad the shoulders turned out broad, too. But my shoulders are not broad in reality, so the seam for the sleeve is not in the right position and there is too much fabric in the upper area of the blouse. Well, I guess I have to find the correct alterations for this problem. Otherwise it looks pretty promising.
