I really like the way the scrap quilt is turning out. My son thinks it contains too much black but I don't agree. In my opinion, the black fabric brings out the brightness of the other colors. The sewing progresses nicely, it doesn't take much time to make a row now and then. Good thing I already ordered the backing fabric. I wonder how long I will have to wait for that?!

Projekt Resteverwertung

It doesn't matter how much fabric you have, there is never the one you need or enough of it in your stash. I stopped stash building years ago, usually I buy a few FQs that I don't really need during our Wahlsdorf weekends but that's about it.

After I saw Renate's scrap quilt again at the Blossin retreat I decided to use up my scraps making a quilt with that pattern, just with a black background instead of white. Right after the retreat I started cutting my scraps. Everything that was less than about one FQ had to go. I just didn't have enough black fabrics since I had used most of what I had for the hexagons so I couldn't really start sewing until my fabric order finally cleared customs.

I cut my fabrics using the metric system. The pieces required for this pattern measure 10 x 10, 10 x 5 and 5 x 5 cm (including seam allowance) which is pretty neat since I can cut 10 x 10 pieces whenever possible. I can always recut later when I run out of smaller pieces. I think this should also work if you use the imperial system and cut your pieces 4 x 4, 4 x 2 and 2 x 2". I did a quick calculation but if you decide you want to try it, please think it through for yourself. Anyway, it doesn't look like that much fabric in the picture but in reality I think this is enough for about three to five quilts. Well, maybe I will make one with a white background, too. Or maybe dark blue? That should also look nice. And if I still have fabric left, this is also a cheerful pattern suitable for preterm baby quilts.

Schon abgeschrieben

I ordered fabrics in the US in April, the package was shipped to me on April 15. And guess what, they finally arrived this week. I had already given up hope and written them off as a total loss. The delivery took longer than eight weeks, German customs really outdid themselves this time.

Anyway, they are finally here. I plan to use the black fabrics as background for a scrap quilt. And I made six new preterm baby quilt tops at the retreat in April I want to finish with the other fabrics. I haven't posted pictures of the tops yet, I know...
