Kurz vor knapp

Erinnert sich noch jemand an die Weihnachtsbaumdecke, die ich im letzten Jahr direkt nach Weihnachten genäht habe? Ich hatte sie ja sogar gleich gequiltet, nur das Binding fehlte noch. Richtig geraten, ich habe sie in einer Schublade verstaut und bis vor etwa zehn Tagen nicht wieder angerührt. Dann fiel mir plötzlich auf, dass der Dezember vor der Tür steht, und wir stellen hier in Nordamerika den Baum ja schon viel früher auf als in Deutschland. Also habe ich mich hingesetzt und endlich das Binding genäht, und jetzt ist die Decke fertig und wartet nur noch auf den Baum, den wir am nächsten Wochenende kaufen und aufstellen wollen.

Does anyone still remember the Christmas tree skirt I made last year right after Christmas? I even quilted it right away, all it still needed was the binding. Yes, you guessed correctly, I put it in a drawer and didn't take it out again until ten days ago when I suddenly realized that it was almost December. I am happy to announce that I sat down and did the binding, and now it is ready to go under the tree next weekend.

We Care Flannel Quilts

Und hier sind die fertigen Spendenquilts. Diesmal habe ich das Binding komplett mit der Maschine genäht, und es sieht nicht absolut furchtbar aus. Gefallen tut es mir immer noch nicht, aber ich hatte einfach keine Zeit, mit der Hand zu nähen. Es ist nicht perfekt, aber immerhin fertig.

And here are the finished donation quilts. I managed to put on the binding entirely by machine this time. I still don't like the look but I just didn't have time to sew the binding down by hand. Finished is better than perfect... at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Stack O' Jacks

Mein Wochenende war durch die Quilt Show recht arbeitsreich, hat aber auch viel Spaß gemacht. Jetzt bin ich ziemlich müde, und zu allem Überfluss habe ich mir auch noch eine Erkältung geholt, also werde ich mich kurzfassen. Dies soll nur zur Erinnerung sein, dass ich heute an der Reihe bin, mein Projekt für den Enter If You Dare Blog Hop vorzustellen. Es ist ein Halloween Wandbehang geworden mit dem Titel "Stack O' Jacks". Die Anleitung gibt es bis Halloween als kostenlosen Download auf meiner Website. I had a really busy and quite successful weekend at the quilt show but now I am just tired. And I am getting a cold, so I won't be posting much here. This is just a reminder that today it is my turn to show my project for the Enter If You Dare Blog Hop. It's a Halloween wall hanging called "Stack O' Jacks". The pattern will be available for free download until Halloween on my website. Jetzt gefällt er mir doch

Im August hatte ich mich ja über meine Hope Chest Blöcke beschwert und gesagt, dass sie mir nicht gefallen, weil die Farben zu dunkel sind. Das Top habe ich schon vor langer Zeit gequiltet und dann total vergessen, hier Bilder zu posten. Das Binding fehlt immer noch, dafür fehlt mir einfach die Zeit. Aber ich habe meine Meinung in der Zwischenzeit geändert, nachdem es nun gequiltet ist, gefällt es mir doch. Ich bin super zufrieden mit dem Endergebnis. Ich habe vorher auch schon Federn gequiltet, aber noch nie einen kompletten Rand, und ich dachte, das sollte ich mal versuchen. Ich habe nur die Mittelkurve markiert und dann versucht, möglichst nicht nachzudenken. Und vom Ergebnis war ich schwer beeindruckt... das sieht fast so aus, als hätte ich gewusst, was ich da tat.

In August I was complaining about the Hope Chest blocks, saying that I didn't like them because of the dark colours. I quilted the top a long time ago and then completely forgot to post pictures here. The binding is still missing, I just haven't had the time. But I changed my mind after I quilted it. Quilting does indeed make the quilt, and I am very happy with the way it turned out. I have quilted feathers before but I had never done a feather border all around, so I thought I should give it a try. I only marked the spine and tried not to think too much. And I was quite impressed with the result... it almost looks like I knew what I was doing!

Übergabe

Diese Woche bin ich nur herumgerannt und habe nichts richtig genäht, aber immerhin habe ich gestern in der Bücherei den Schmetterlingsquilt übergeben an Shannon, eine Mitarbeiterin des Seniorenheims, für das er bestimmt ist. Mit diesem Quilt sollen verstorbene Bewohner zugedeckt werden, wenn sie zum letzten Mal das Heim verlassen. Ich hoffe, dass die bunten Schmetterlinge diese Situation ein klein wenig erträglicher machen werden.

This has been a very busy week, and I have nothing really to show but I donated the butterfly quilt yesterday at the library to Shannon, the retirement home's activity coordinator. When someone at the home passes away, their bed will be draped with this quilt for a dignified exit under a field of butterflies. I hope my Rainbow Butterflies will make a difficult situation a little brighter.

Der Schmetterlingsquilt ist fertig, auch das Binding ist mittlerweile geschafft, und er wird nächste Woche übergeben. Beim Quilten habe ich auch nur eine mittlere Katastrophe produziert... ich war schon fast mit einem langen Sashing Strip fertig, da fiel mir auf, dass das Muster auf dem Kopf stand. Und ja, ich habe alles wieder aufgetrennt, ich konnte damit nicht leben. Aber jetzt gefällt mir das Ergebnis gut, und hier sind die Bilder.

 

The butterfly quilt is bound and ready to be donated. I managed to quilt it with only one major disaster... I had quilted almost one of the long sashing strips before I realized that the design was upside down. And yes, I unpicked it all, I just couldn't live with it. But now I am quite happy with the result. Without further ado, here are the pictures.

Zwischenstand

Viel zu zeigen habe ich heute nicht, mir fehlt einfach die Zeit... aber ich habe immerhin so zwischendurch den Canadian Mystery Quilt soweit zusammengesetzt, wie es ging, nur der äußere Rand fehlt jetzt noch. Das Layout gefällt mir gut, die schmalen schwarzen Streifen zwischen den Blöcken rahmen diese gut ein. Und morgen gehe ich auf die Suche nach einem passenden Stoff für den Rand. Vielleicht schaffe ich es ja doch noch bis Canada Day... wir werden sehen.

I don't have much to show today, I just don't have the time... but I have assembled the Canadian Mystery Quilt as much as I could, it is just missing the outer border now. I like the layout, and I really like the small black sashing strips. And I am going to look for border fabric tomorrow. So maybe I will get it done until Canada Day... that might still work.

And I have also finished quilting the Butterfly Quilt and am currently sewing the binding. Here is a little preview, it should be done by next week.

Der Schmetterlingsquilt ist auch fertig gequiltet, und im Moment nähe ich am Binding. Hier ist schon mal eine kleine Vorschau, nächste Woche sollte er fertig sein.

Der zweite Spendenquilt

Den zweiten Restequilt habe ich jetzt auch endlich beendet, er ist gequiltet, das Binding ist dran, und sogar das Label ist aufgenäht, so dass ich ihn in diesem Monat der Gilde spenden kann. Und auch wenn mir das Muster immer noch gut gefällt, jetzt reicht es damit erst mal. Beim Quilten hatte ich wieder jede Menge Spaß, ich spiele immer noch gern mit Millie herum, und meine Schultern danken es mir auch, dass ich das nicht mehr auf meiner Haushaltsnähmaschine machen muss. I finished the second scrap quilt in the meantime, it is quilted, bound and has a label and will be donated to the evening guild at this month's meeting. As much as I like this scrap quilt idea, I think I am done with this particular pattern for a while. I had a lot of fun quilting it though, I love playing with Millie, and my shoulders are very grateful that I don't have to use my domestic machine anymore. Canada Donation Quilt

Für Canada's Big Quilt Bee werden natürlich nicht nur individuelle Blöcke gesammelt, auch ganze Quilttops und fertige Quilts werden gern angenommen. Damit fertige Quilts nicht kreuz und quer durch das Land verschickt werden müssen, wurden regionale Sammelstellen eingerichtet. Und in BC werden die Quilts von Kate gesammelt, die in unserer Abendgilde für die Programmgestaltung zuständig ist. Kate hat nicht nur alle Kanadastoffe für uns vorgeschnitten und sortiert, sie hat auch gleich selbst ein ganzes Quilttop genäht und dafür ein Twisted Log Cabin Muster gewählt. Ich habe angeboten, es für sie zu quilten, und ein anderes Mitglied der Gilde hat inzwischen das Binding angenäht, so dass wir den ersten fertigen Quilt präsentieren können.

For Canada's Big Quilt Bee they are not only collecting individual blocks, they are also happy to receive whole quilt tops or even finished quilts. To avoid shipping finished quilts back and forth all over the country there are regional collections. And the lady who is collecting finished quilts for BC is Kate, our evening guild's programs chairperson. Kate not only prepared and cut all the Canada fabrics for us and packed them into kits, she also made a whole quilt top herself using her twisted log cabin ruler. I offered to quilt it for her, and another guild member has put on the binding in the meantime, so we have the first finished quilt to show.

Auch das Binding ist geschafft

Der Restequilt hat endlich zu mir gesprochen und ist jetzt fertig, ich habe sogar schon das Binding angenäht. Dafür habe ich auch wieder Reste verwendet und zwar im gleichen Muster wie im Quilt. Mit 2" Breite ist das ein bisschen fummeliger, normalerweise schneide ich 2 1/4" Streifen für das Binding, und die vielen Nähte machen das Annähen mit der Hand auch nicht einfacher, aber das bunte Binding passt immer so gut mit dem breiten weißen Rand.

The scrap quilt finally spoke to me and is finished, I even put the binding on! I used more of my scraps for that and tried to echo the pattern of the quilt. It makes it a little more difficult since I used the 2" scraps instead of the 2 1/4" strips that I usually cut for binding, and all those seams didn't make the hand sewing easier either but I really like the scrappy look of the binding with the contrast of the white border.

Edit: I just realized I forgot to post pictures of the back, it shows the quilting off nicely.

Edit: Mir ist gerade aufgefallen, dass ich vergessen habe, Bilder von der Rückseite zu posten, wo man das Quilting besser sieht.

 

Dancing Garland

Und ich bin fertig! Ich habe den weihnachtlichen Wandbehang tatsächlich gleich gequiltet und sogar das Binding und den Tunnel für die Aufhängung genäht. Und ich hatte viel Spaß mit Millie. Perfekt ist es nicht, aber mir gefällt es richtig gut. Besonders mag ich das Füllmuster im Hintergrund, die Loops und Sterne/Schneeflocken (ich glaube, das Muster habe ich bei Leah Day gesehen). Und die Holly Leaves und Beeren im Rand gefallen mir auch, nur mit den Proportionen hat es noch nicht ganz so geklappt. Es war ein schnelles und einfaches Projekt, das viel Spaß gemacht hat.

 

And I am done! I quilted the Christmas wall hanging right away and even put the binding on and a hanging sleeve. I had fun playing with Millie. It's not perfect but I really like it. I am very happy with the background loop and snowflake/star filler (I think I found that on Leah Day's site), and I like my holly leaves and berries in the border although I think the proportions are a little weird. A fast, fun and easy project!

Free Motion Feather Filler

Ich habe leider nichts zu zeigen, was ich privat genäht hätte, ich habe einfach im Moment keine Zeit dafür, da vor Weihnachten doch mehr Aufträge eintrudeln. Die meisten Kundinnen wählen ein Pantograph-Muster für ihre Quilts aus, und für mich ist das ein bisschen wie nähen mit Precuts... es wird schnell langweilig. Eine meiner Freundinnen aus der Gilde brachte mir dann zum Glück einen kleinen Quilt und bat um etwas mit Federn für den Rand. Es sollte kein sorgfältig geplantes traditionelles Federmuster sein, sie wusste selbst nicht so recht, wie sie sich das eigentlich vorstellte, und wir einigten uns dann auf ein Free Motion Füllmuster mit Federn für ihren Scrappy Log Cabin. Und mit dem Ergebnis bin ich mal ausnahmsweise so richtig zufrieden. Free Motion Quilting habe ich ja schon immer gern gemacht, und mit der Longarm ist es viel einfacher. Meine Schultern danken es mir sehr, dass ich Millie angeschafft habe. Normalerweise habe ich ja immer etwas zu meckern an meinen Arbeiten (auch wenn ich das nicht laut sage), aber dieser Quilt war wirklich eine Ausnahme. Das Feder-Füllmuster gefällt mir gut, ich habe absichtlich nicht wie besessen geplant, wie ich das sonst gern tue, sondern einfach losgelegt, und der fertige Quilt gefällt mir richtig gut.

I have nothing to show that is personal sewing, I am still busy with customer quilts. Most of them choose pantographs, and that is like sewing with precuts to me... it gets boring quickly. One of my friends from the quilt guild brought me a small quilt and asked for something with feathers on the borders. It wasn't supposed to be a formal feather border, just something fun that would work on her cute scrappy log cabin quilt. We decided on a free motion feather filler, and I am really happy with the way it turned out. I have always loved free motion quilting, and it is so much easier with the longarm. My shoulders are quite happy I decided to buy my Millie. And usually I am my own worst critic and am never completely satisfied with my work but this quilt was pretty much the exception to the rule. I like the feather filler design, didn't obsess too much but just did it, and really love how it turned out.

Und fertig

Gestern abend habe ich den letzten Stich am Binding genäht und heute dann gleich Photos gemacht, so dass ich hier jetzt den fertigen Dessert Time Quilt zeigen kann. Und jetzt, wo er fertig ist, gefällt er mir wieder besser. Mit dem Muster und der Anleitung bin ich zwar immer noch nicht zufrieden, aber immerhin hatte ich große freie Flächen zum Quilten, und das hat viel Spaß gemacht. Und hier ist er... der fertige Quilt.
 

I finally finished the binding yesterday and took some pictures today, so here is the finished Dessert Time quilt. Now that it is done I quite like it again. I am still not happy with the pattern or the instructions but it gave me nice large areas to quilt, and that was a lot of fun. So without further ado... here is the quilt.
