Old Faithful und Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

Es hat fast zehn Jahre gedauert, aber jetzt ist es vollbracht... beide Yellowstone-Blöcke (Old Faithful und der Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone), die ich 2009 genäht hatte, sind in Wandbehänge verwandelt. Die Idee, einen ganzen Quilt zum Thema Yellowstone zu nähen, verfolge ich nicht mehr, besonders, nachdem ich Yellowstone im letzten Jahr auch als Thema für den My Happy Place Row Along gewählt hatte. Die beiden Blöcke gefallen mir aber immer noch, und jetzt müssen sie nicht mehr in der Schublade ihr Dasein fristen.

It took me almost ten years but it is finally done... I turned both Yellowstone blocks (Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone) that I made in 2009 into wall hangings. I have given up on the idea of a whole Yellowstone quilt, especially after I made another Yellowstone themed wall hanging last year for the My Happy Place Row Along but I still love the blocks, and this seemed the best way to finish them.

Ich war den ganzen Sommer über gut mit Auftragsarbeiten beschäftigt, es gab kein Sommerloch (nicht, dass ich mich darüber beklage), und in einem Monat steht dann auch unsere Quilt Show an, so dass keine Langeweile aufkommt. Darüber habe ich komplett vergessen, hier über meinen Beitrag zu Marians My Happy Place Row Along zu berichten. Die Muster sind immer nur für eine Woche als kostenlose Downloads verfügbar, aber der Row Along läuft noch, und viele Muster können noch kostenlos heruntergeladen werden oder wurden noch gar nicht veröffentlicht. I have been busy quilting for customers all summer, it never slowed down (not that I am complaining), and now we have just one month left until our quilt show which also adds to my workload. I just realized that I completely forgot to post about my contribution to Marian's My Happy Place Row Along. The patterns are available for free download for one week only but the Row Along is still running, lots of great patterns are still available or not even published yet. It was my turn last Thursday, and my happy place is Yellowstone National Park. I made two blocks several years ago, one of Old Faithful Geyser, one of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone Lower Falls, with the intention of making a whole Yellowstone quilt. I started drawing a bison, this much I remember, and then I never touched the project again. The blocks were still in a drawer, and I have taken them out and will turn them into individual wall hangings. I used them as a starting point for my row and added the bison and bison calf I was working on and also Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring in the park. 

Ich war am letzten Donnerstag an der Reihe, und mein Happy Place ist der Nationalpark Yellowstone. Ich hatte vor Jahren schon mal zwei Blöcke genäht, einen mit dem Geysir Old Faithful und einen mit den Lower Falls im Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Daraus sollte eigentlich ein ganzer Yellowstone Quilt werden. Ich weiß noch, dass ich angefangen hatte, einen Bison zu zeichnen, und dann wanderte das Projekt in eine Schublade und geriet in Vergessenheit. Ich habe die Blöcke jetzt herausgekramt und werde sie in zwei einzelne Wandbehänge umwandeln. Aber sie waren jedenfalls ein guter Startpunkt für meine Reihe. Ein Bison und Bisonkalb kamen noch hinzu, und Grand Prismatic Spring, die größte heiße Quelle im Park.

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

Im Yellowstone National Park gibt es natürlich noch viel mehr zu sehen als Geysire. Für meinen zweiten Block habe ich den Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone ausgewählt. Hier hat der Yellowstone River eine tiefe Schlucht in die Felsen gegraben. Auch mehrere Wasserfälle gibt es hier. Auf meinem Bild sind die Lower Falls zu sehen.

There is much more to see in Yellowstone National Park than just geysers. My second block shows the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, where the river washed out a deep gorge. There are also several waterfalls like the Lower Falls that can be seen in my picture.

Old Faithful

Nach der vielen Kleidung hatte ich mal wieder das Bedürfnis, etwas Quiltiges zu nähen. Im Urlaub bin ich immer voller Ideen und Bilder für neue Quilts, schon seit Jahren will ich einen Colorado Quilt nähen, und auch unsere Besuche in Schottland bei meiner Schwägerin werden hoffentlich irgendwann in einem Quilt enden. Fotos und Ideen habe ich schon reichlich gesammelt, nur in die Tat umgesetzt habe ich bisher nichts.

After so much apparel sewing during the last months I really had the need to make something quilty. While traveling I am always full of ideas and images for new quilts. I have been wanting to make a Colorado quilt for years, and Scotland is another country that will hopefully end up in one of my quilts some time. I have lots of pictures and ideas but I never got around to really starting one of these projects.

Usually I plan all my quilts from beginning to end in EQ. This time I threw all caution to the wind (although it was very hard for me to do so) and just started sewing. I made a block picturing the geyser Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. What other blocks I want to make, how big the quilt will be in the end, what layout I will use - no idea. I will just go on and see wherever it takes me.

Normalerweise plane ich ja jeden Quilt von vorn bis hinten in EQ durch. Diesmal bin ich davon abgewichen, auch wenn es mir schwer gefallen ist. Ich habe einfach losgelegt und einen Block von dem Geysir Old Faithful im Yellowstone National Park genäht. Weitere Blöcke, Größe des Quilts, Layout - keine Ahnung. Ich mache einfach mal weiter und sehe, wo es mich hinführt.
