Pretty in Pink

Gerade konnte ich meinen Junior-Fotografen überreden, ein paar Bilder von mir mit Kleid und Mantel zu machen. Ich liebe beide Teile! Das Kleid ist locker und leicht und bei diesen Temperaturen gerade richtig. Und der Mantel ist auch ein Knaller, wenigstens morgens ziehe ich ihn über, auch wenn es nicht nötig wäre, einfach weil er so schön ist.

I just talked my son into taking a few pictures of me wearing the new dress and coat. I love both! The dress is light and cool, exactly right for summer temperatures. And the coat is a real hit! Unfortunately it is too warm to really wear it but at least I can put it on in the morning when it is still a little cooler.

Das Kleid ist fertig! Mit der Anleitung in der Ottobre bin ich überhaupt nicht klar gekommen. Auch durch Ausprobieren konnte ich nicht herausfinden, wie ich das Kleid mit dem Futter an Halsausschnitt und Armausschnitten verstürzen soll, wenn die Schulternähte schon geschlossen sind. Ich habe dann entnervt aufgegeben und die Armausschnitte mit Schrägstreifen verstürzt, die ich innen auf dem Futter mit der Hand angenäht habe. Das ist zwar auch nicht die optimale Methode, sieht aber ordentlich aus.

I finished the dress today! I couldn't figure out the Ottobre instructions. I tried to follow them but I still don't see how I can sew dress and lining together at the neckline and the armholes and then turn the right side out when the shoulder seams are already closed. I finally gave up and used bias strips to finish the armholes. That might not be the best way to do it but it looks acceptable.

Yesterday, one of my cats crept into the sewing room without being noticed and went postal in there. The back of the Ottobre pattern can't be used anymore. I hope I don't want to make this dress again in the future.

Gestern hat sich übrigens eine der Katzen unbemerkt ins Nähzimmer geschlichen und dort randaliert. Das Rückenteil des Ottobre-Schnitts lässt sich jetzt wohl nicht mehr verwenden. Ich hoffe, mir fällt nicht irgendwann ein, dass ich das Kleid noch einmal nähen möchte.

Jetzt gehe ich mal den Mantelschnitt kopieren. Auch da habe ich schon wieder Probleme, die Anleitung in der Ottobre zu verstehen. Aber da grundsätzlich klar sein dürfte, welches Schnitt-Teil wohin gehört, wird das schon irgendwie klappen.

Now I am off to trace the pattern for the coat. I still don't get Ottobre's instructions there, either, but I think it cannot be too difficult to figure out where all the pieces go, so I am confident I will be able to make it.

Ich bin sehr zufrieden...

... mit dem Kleid. Die Bastelei an dem Schnitt hat sich gelohnt, es passt super. Das Futterkleid ist auch schon fast fertig, allerdings ist mir die Anleitung von Ottobre, wie das Futter eingenäht werden soll, ein komplettes Rätsel. Irgendwie fehlt mir da wohl das räumliche Vorstellungsvermögen. Wenn es nicht klappt, nähe ich das Futter eben so ein, wie ich es immer mache, wird wohl keiner kontrollieren kommen :-)

I am really happy with the dress. All the changes I made worked out, it fits me very well. The lining dress is almost done as well, I just don't understand Ottobre's instructions how they want me to insert the lining. I think I have trouble visualizing what they describe. Well, if I can't figure that out, I will just insert the lining the way I always do it. I guess they won't come and check :-)

Kleid Ottobre 2009-02-17

Das ist das erste Modell, das ich nähe, das nicht von Burda ist. Also war ein Probemodell unbedingt nötig. Ich habe mich zunächst an der Maßtabelle orientiert und kam gleich zu ganz anderen Größen als bei Burda. Allerdings habe ich mich entweder beim Kopieren des Schnitts vertan oder die Proportionen bei Ottobre sind sehr seltsam. Das Probemodell passte an der Hüfte perfekt, an der Taille musste ich 5 cm zugeben, dafür im Brustbereich 6 cm rausnehmen. Dazu kamen noch die üblichen figurbedingten Änderungen (hängende Schultern, runder Rücken) und ein bißchen Kneifen am Ausschnitt. Jetzt bin ich ganz zufrieden und werde an diesem Wochenende loslegen.
This is my first project that is not a Burda WOF design. Therefore I had to make a muslin. I looked at the measurement chart and came up with sizes different from Burda. I don't know if I made a mistake while tracing the pattern or if Ottobre has strange proportions in their designs but I had to make quite a few changes. The hip area was fine, but I had to add 2" at the waist and take out 2 1/4" in the bust area in addition to the usual changes (sloping, forward shoulders, round back). I am satisfied with the outcome now and will start the dress this weekend.

Das fertige Kleid

Hier ist nun also endlich das fertige Kleid. Ich bin immer noch nicht ganz zufrieden, aber ich denke, es geht, und mein Mann meint, außer mir sieht sowieso keiner die Falten, die mich stören. Allerdings hatte ich das Kleid schon den ganzen Tag an, bevor das Foto gemacht wurde, ich bitte, die Knitterfalten vom Sitzen zu übersehen.

I finally present the finished dress. I am not completely satisfied how it turned out but I think it is wearable, and my husband thinks that nobody except me can see the wrinkles I keep complaining about. I have been wearing the dress the whole day, please excuse the wrinkles from sitting that you can see in the picture.

I found a jacket in my closet that goes nicely with this dress. My mother-in-law asked me right away if I had sewn that myself, too. Well, I wish, unfortunately this is way beyond my skills, I bought this a few years ago.

Im Schrank hatte ich noch eine passende Jacke, meine Schwiegermutter hat gleich gefragt, ob ich die auch selbst genäht hatte. Ich wünschte, das könnte ich, aber die ist gekauft.

Was lange währt...

... wird vielleicht nicht unbedingt gut, aber zumindest akzeptabel. Das Kleid ist fertig und tragbar, und ich hatte beim Fertigstellen auch eine Erleuchtung, was der Unterschied ist zwischen Einfassen mit Schrägband und Verstürzen mit Schrägband. Als Quilterin wurde ich bisher nur mit dem Einfassen konfrontiert, und die Burda-Anleitung habe ich wie immer zuerst nicht verstanden, aber als ich angefangen hatte, wurde es mir auf einmal schlagartig klar.

My dress is finally finished, and it is wearable. I didn't really understand the Burda instructions for finishing the armholes but after I started it turned out to be really easy and almost self-explaining.

Endlich geht es weiter

Ich habe mich endlich aufgerafft und mit dem Kleid weitergemacht. Der "Rohbau" ist jetzt fertig, jetzt mache ich mich ans Futter. Ganz glücklich bin ich mit dem Schulterbereich immer noch nicht, aber besser bekomme ich es nicht hin.

I finally went back to working on my dress and got most of it done. Now I am off to make the lining. I am still not completely satisfied with the shoulder area but I don't think it will get any better.

Zugeschnitten

Mittlerweile war ich bei Hüco und habe Stoff und Futter für das Kleid gekauft.

I went to Hüco and bought fabric and lining for the dress.

All the pieces are cut, now I am off to the sewing machine. Let's see how much I can get done today.

Zugeschnitten habe ich auch, zumindest den Oberstoff, jetzt geht es ans Nähen. Mal sehen, wie weit ich heute komme.

Kleid 106 aus Burda 12/2007

Als nächstes möchte ich mir aus der Dezember-Burda das Kleid Nr. 106 nähen. Stoff habe ich noch nicht, da muss ich erst zu Hüco fahren. Aber den Schnitt habe ich schon mal kopiert.

My next project is dress No. 106 from the December 2007 issue of Burda WOF. I don't have any fabric yet but already copied the pattern.

I also made a muslin which fits quite well. I am not completely satisfied with the position of the princess seams but I think I can fix that by adding a little at the center seam.

Und ein Probemodell habe ich auch genäht. Es passt ganz gut, nur mit der Lage der Teilungsnähte bin ich nicht ganz einverstanden. Aber wenn ich an der vorderen Mitte ein bißchen zugebe, müsste das eigentlich auch passen.
