Sentimental Journey

Zunächst wünsche ich allen ein Frohes Neues Jahr. Gute Vorsätze habe ich nicht gefasst, das klappt sowieso nie, und es erschließt sich mir auch nicht wirklich, warum man ein neues Jahr braucht, um etwas zu ändern. Aber mit dem neuen Jahr tauchen auch neue BOMs auf. Gestern habe ich einen gefunden, bei dem ich sofort Lust hatte, mal wieder so einen richtig schönen Patchwork-Quilt zu nähen. Er findet statt bei Block Central und heißt "Sentimental Journey".

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I didn't make any resolutions, they never work out anyway, and I have never figured out why you need a new year if you want to change something. But a new year also means new BOMs. Yesterday I found one that made me want to sew a nice traditional patchwork quilt right away. It is the Block Central BOM which is called "Sentimental Journey".

Since I am a little obsessive-compulsive I redrew the whole quilt in EQ yesterday, changed the size to fit my taste, calculated the fabric yardage and ordered fabrics right away. I am not sure yet if I will just sew one block a month or rather all of them more or less at once. I find it rather difficult to get everything out again month after month.

Da ich ja leicht zwanghaft veranlagt bin, habe ich das ganze Teil gestern in EQ nachgezeichnet, die Größe nach meinem Geschmack verändert, den Stoffbedarf ausgerechnet und auch gleich Stoffe bestellt. Ich weiß noch nicht, ob ich es als BOM nähe oder lieber alle Blöcke hintereinander. Ich persönlich finde es recht schwierig, jeden Monat alles neu herauszukramen.

Meine EQ-Version des gesamten Quilts zeige ich hier lieber nicht, ich bin mir da nicht sicher mit dem Copyright. Der erste Block ist aber schon online und heißt "Stars Fell On Alabama". Ich habe ihn in EQ mit den Stoffen eingefärbt, die ich auch wirklich dafür bestellt habe. Leider dauert es noch ein bißchen, bis ich loslegen kann.

I am not sure if I am allowed to show my whole EQ drawing of the quilt here, I don't want to infringe copyright. But the first block is already posted and is called "Stars Fell On Alabama". I colored my EQ version with the fabrics that I ordered for the quilt. Unfortunately I can't start right away.

Mäusejagd

Die Katze, die ich für Karin genäht habe, habe ich selbst gezeichnet. Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich mal einen Babyquilt genäht, den ich "Mäusejagd" genannt habe, dafür brauchte ich die Silhouette einer Katze. Da mir die, die in EQ waren, nicht gefallen haben, habe ich dann nach einem Foto selbst gezeichnet (die Mäuse übrigens auch).

The cat I made for Karin is a pattern that I drew myself. A few years ago I made a baby quilt that I called "Mouse Hunt". I needed a cat pattern for that, and the ones in the EQ library didn't appeal to me, so I took a photo and drew one myself (the same goes for the appliquéd mice).

Ohio Stars

Bevor es ans Vernähen der Beute vom Holländischen Stoffmarkt geht, steht aber erst mal noch ein Quilt auf der To-Do-Liste. Mein Bruder, der in Mexiko lebt, wird im Juli zum ersten Mal Vater, und natürlich muss da ein Baby-Quilt her. Als Muster habe ich den "Ohio Star" gewählt, klassisch und immer wieder schön. Hier kommt mein Entwurf mit EQ.

Before I start making clothes with my fabric mart purchases I will make a quilt first. My brother and his wife in Mexico are expecting their first child in July, and of course I have to make a quilt for the baby. I decided to make Ohio Star blocks, a classic pattern which I like very much. I drew a design in EQ.

For the stars I will use my self-dyed fabrics which give me a nice palette to choose from. I have six weeks until we go on vacation (and the baby is due). That should be enough to make up 25 blocks and turn them into a quilt.

Für die Sterne will ich meine selbstgefärbten Stoffe verwenden, da habe ich eine schöne Palette. Und bis zum Urlaub (und der Geburt des Babys) sind es noch sechs Wochen, das sollte doch reichen für einen Quilt aus 25 Sternen.

Sophies Quilt

Sophie ist eine Freundin meines Sohnes und acht Jahre alt. Zusammen wollen wir einen Quilt nähen. Heute haben wir den Entwurf mit EQ gemacht. Er basiert auf dem Quilt "Rainbow Field" von Natasha Miliotis aus einem australischen Heft (Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazine Vol. 13 No. 8). Wir haben ihn auf die Maße von Sophies Bett angepasst.

Sophie is my son's friend and eight years old. Together we want to make a quilt for her bed. Today we drew the design in EQ. It is based on the quilt "Rainbow Field" by Natasha Miliotis which was featured in Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazine Vol. 13 No. 8. We changed it a bit so it will fit on Sophie's bed.

Sternetreffen in Barhöft

Am Wochenende war nun endlich das diesjährige Sternetreffen-Ost. Es fand statt in der Nähe von Stralsund, in Barhöft an der Ostsee. Unser Hotel lag direkt am Wasser, an einem kleinen Hafen, wo auch frischer Fisch verkauft wurde.

Last weekend we met for our yearly retreat. This time it took place in Barhöft near Stralsund which is located at the Baltic Sea. Our hotel was close to the shore next to a small harbor where fresh fish was sold.

We sewed a lot and talked a lot and had fun and relaxed. We had a Show & Tell and a Challenge (that I will post about later) and also a demonstration of EQ quilting software.

Wir haben fleißig genäht und viel gequatscht, und neben Show & Tell und einem Challenge (von beidem später mehr) gab es auch eine Einführung in die Welt von EQ.

Für Tina, die die Organisation übernommen hatte, nähten wir als Dankeschön Blöcke mit Kapitänstüren vom Darß.

The retreat was organized by Tina. As a thank you gift we made blocks for her picturing traditional doors from the area.

Vera brought her yoyo sheep which some of us loved and some of us just hated...

Über Veras YoYo-Schaf waren die Meinungen geteilt. Entweder man liebt es oder man hasst es...

Stiefmütterchen

Ich brauchte mal wieder Geburtstagskarten, unter anderem für eine ehemalige Kollegin, von der ich weiß, dass sie Stiefmütterchen sehr liebt. Also habe ich mit EQ eine Vorlage gezeichnet.
I needed new birthday cards, one for a former co-worker who loves pansies very much. So I sat down and drew a pattern in EQ.

It took me quite long to actually make the cards because one pansy motif consists of 65 pieces. I would probably not do it again but I really love how the cards turned out.

Die Ausführung hat dann ziemlich lange gedauert, ein Motiv besteht aus 65 Einzelteilen. Nochmal würde ich es, glaube ich, nicht tun, aber die Mühe hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt.

Rosengarten - mein Lieblingsquilt

Vor einigen Jahren fuhr vor uns auf dem Interstate in Ohio ein kanadischer Lastwagen mit einer Rose als Firmenlogo, die sich wunderbar für einen Quilt geeignet hätte. Natürlich hatte ich gerade keinen Fotoapparat zur Hand, also notierte ich mir den Namen der Firma mit der Absicht, im Internet nach dem Logo zu suchen. Und natürlich hatte ausgerechnet diese Firma keine Website.

A few years ago we were driving on the interstate in Ohio behind a Canadian truck that had a beautiful rose as the company logo. I thought of a quilt right away but couldn't find my camera. So I wrote down the company's name and googled for a picture of their logo after I got home. Unfortunately, this company didn't have a website.

That meant I had to draw myself. And because the rose turned out beautifully, I not only made a quilt but also a matching pillow. Here are the EQ designs and pictures of the finished quilt and pillow.

Also musste ich selbst zeichnen, und weil die Rose so schön wurde, habe ich nicht nur einen Quilt, sondern auch noch ein passendes Kissen dazu genäht. Hier sind jeweils EQ-Entwurf und Original.

Schneeglöckchen

Ich brauchte neue Geburtstagskarten, und der Jahreszeit entsprechend habe ich Schneeglöcken gezeichnet und dann appliziert.

Pumpkin Patch - Das Original

Mein Blog-Logo habe ich selbst gezeichnet, und zwar schon vor ein paar Jahren, damals als Applikation für ein Kissen. Einen passenden Tischläufer und einen herbstlichen Wandbehand aus den gleichen Stoffen habe ich damals auch genäht. Hier sind jeweils EQ-Entwurf und Foto.

I drew my pumpkin logo a few years ago. It was originally an applique design for a pillow. I also made a matching table runner and a wall hanging with a fall design out of the same fabrics. Here are EQ designs and photos.
