Änderungsarbeiten

Ich glaube, ich habe hier noch nicht erwähnt, dass wir im letzten September mit Square Dance angefangen haben. Das macht viel Spaß, und obwohl die meisten Leute am Anfang sagen, sie würden niemals so ein komplettes Outfit mit Petticoat tragen wollen, tun die meisten es schließlich doch. Es macht einfach mehr Spaß, wenn der Rock schwingt, und so habe ich im Dezember bei einem Second Hand Verkauf mein erstes Outfit erstanden.

 

I probably haven't mentioned here before that we started square dancing last September. It is a lot of fun, and even though many people swear they would never wear one of the outfits with a crinoline, most of them finally do it anyway. In my opinion it is way more fun to dance with a swinging skirt, and so I bought my first outfit at a recycle sale in December. 

The skirt turned out to be a little short, not just for me, also for the crinoline, but I figured it would be easy enough to change that. I bought some fabric, dug out my pattern drafting books and constructed a flounce. I was too lazy to sew ruffles, making a flounce with the advantage of a straight seam seemed to be a better idea. Well, square dance skirts use up a lot of fabric, the circumference of the skirt was about 135", the picture shows only a quarter of the pattern piece.

Der Rock war ein bißchen kurz, nicht nur für meine Größe, auch im Vergleich zum passenden Petticoat, aber ich dachte mir, das dürfte relativ einfach zu beheben sein. Also habe ich Stoff gekauft, meine Schnittkonstruktionsbücher herausgekramt und einen Volant konstruiert. Zum Einkräuseln war ich zu faul, ein Volant, der dann den Vorteil einer geraden Naht hat, erschien mir einfacher. Square Dance Röcke verbrauchen eine Menge Stoff, der Rock hatte einen Saumumfang von fast 3,5m. Auf dem Bild sieht man nur ein Viertel des Schnitt-Teils für den Volant.

Aber ich habe es schließlich geschafft, aus meinem Stoff vier solcher Teile zu schneiden, und das Annähen war dann kein Problem mehr. Der Rock hatte auch einen Bindegürtel aus dem gleichen Stoff, den habe ich abgetrennt und mit dem Material die Bluse noch ein bißchen verlängert. Stattdessen gibt es jetzt einen silbernen Gürtel dazu. Jetzt bin ich gerüstet für alle Valentinstagstänze :)

 

But I managed to cut four pieces out of my fabric, and adding the flounce was no problem at all. The skirt also had waist ties in matching fabric which I took off. I used the material to lengthen the blouse too and added a silver belt instead. Now I am all ready for the Valentine's Day dances :)

Zur Bluse noch ein Rock

Da ich noch einen passenden Stoff für einen Rock hatte, hatte ich einen weiteren Grund, die pinkfarbene Bluse zu beenden. Nachdem sie endlich fertig war, habe ich mich gleich an die Arbeit gemacht und einen Schnitt für einen Rock mit Falten gezeichnet.

Another reason why I didn't want to throw the pink blouse out after messing up the yoke is that I have a matching fabric for a skirt. After finally finishing the blouse I jumped right in and drafted a pattern for a pleated skirt.

Luckily I made a muslin this time because again, I hadn't paid attention. I taped one of the pleats together along the wrong line, so the outermost front pleats were only half as wide as the other two. And I messed up the pleats in the muslin by somehow not folding them correctly. I still don't know how I managed to do that as I didn't just iron them in the wrong direction. It seems like I couldn't figure out which lines were which in my pattern. Fortunately I realized my mistakes early on this time and since they didn't influence the fit of the skirt (which was fine) I didn't lose any time and frustration was minimal.

Zum Glück war ich lernfähig und habe ein Probemodell genäht. Ich hatte nämlich eine der Falten an einer falschen Stelle zusammengeklebt. Das hätte man zwar mit einem Blick gesehen, wenn man aufgepasst hätte, habe ich aber nicht, sondern einfach zugeschnitten. Somit war dann die äußerste der vorderen Falten nur halb so breit wie die beiden anderen. Und dann habe ich noch die Falten insgesamt vermurkst. Wie ich das genau geschafft habe, weiß ich gar nicht. Zuerst dachte ich, ich hätte sie nur in die falsche Richtung gebügelt, aber irgendwie konnte ich wohl die ganzen Linien auf meinem Schnitt nicht voneinander unterscheiden, jedenfalls war das Ergebnis recht seltsam. Aber da mir das zum Glück aufgefallen ist und nichts davon Einfluss auf die Passform hatte, war ich mit der ganzen Aktion recht zufrieden.

Nachgereicht

... wird nun endlich das Foto des fertigen Rocks. Gesäumt habe ich ihn schon vor drei Wochen, ich wollte ihn ja gern zusammen mit der Bluse in Wahlsdorf vorführen. Leider hat mir das Wetter einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht, und Marcy hat das Ensemble bis heute getragen :(

Here is finally a picture of the finished skirt. I hemmed it three weeks ago, the plan was to wear skirt and blouse in Wahlsdorf but it wasn't warm enough for that. As we are still waiting for nice spring weather in Berlin, Marcy has been wearing blouse and skirt until today :(

Ein Rock mit Blumen

Als nächstes Projekt stand auf meiner Liste ein Rock aus dem blau-weißen Blumenstoff vom Stoffmarkt im letzten Sommer. Als Grundlage für den Schnitt habe ich den allerersten Rock verwendet, den ich vor zwei Jahren genäht habe. Ich habe ihn zwar gern getragen, aber mit der Zeit sind mir dann doch die Passformfehler aufgefallen. Da ich mein Hohlkreuz und die nach hinten abrutschende Taille damals nicht berücksichtigt habe, saß er nicht wirklich optimal.

Turning the blue and white floral print from last year's fabric market into a skirt was next on my to-do-list. I based the pattern on the very first skirt I made two years ago. I really liked that skirt a lot but the more sewing experience I got the more I noticed the fitting problems. I never paid attention to my sway back or the fact that my waistline is lower in the back than in the front so it didn't really fit very well.

I took care of that last year when I drafted my sloper so I only had to add width to the hemline for this pattern. This is not really difficult but I made every possible mistake along the way so my pattern has lots of criss-crossing lines that have no meaning at all. Fortunately I noticed my mistakes early on.

In meinem Grundschnitt sind diese Punkte bereits entsprechend angepasst, und die für den Schnitt notwendige Saumerweiterung konnte eigentlich nicht so schwierig sein, dachte ich. War sie auch nicht, aber ich habe so ziemlich jeden erdenklichen Mess-, Denk- und Rechenfehler gemacht, der möglich war, so dass das Schnittmuster jetzt voller wilder Linien ohne Bedeutung ist. Zum Glück ist mir das alles aber noch rechtzeitig aufgefallen.

Jedenfalls wird die Erweiterung zu gleichen Teilen beim Vorderteil, beim Rückenteil und an der Seitennaht vorgenommen. Vom Saum her werden die Teile eingeschnitten und die Taillenabnäher zugedreht. Das Vorderteil hat nun gar keinen Abnäher mehr, bei der rückwärtigen Rockbahn ist ein kleiner übrig geblieben. Das entspricht so auch dem Burda-Schnitt. Also war ich mutig und habe mir ein Probemodell gespart.

The width is added equally to the front, back and side seam. I cut into the pattern from the hemline and closed the waist dart while adding width to them hemline. The front dart is completely gone while there is a small one left in the back. The Burda WOF pattern looks the same so I decided to throw caution to the wind and not make a muslin.

The skirt is almost done by now, I just have to hem it. I have mentioned before that I don't like the Burda WOF way of using facing for the waistline, so I changed that part and made a waistband instead. I will leave the skirt hanging for a few days before hemming it as the fabric was cut on the bias. Meanwhile I will try to figure out what kind of blouse I would like to wear with it.

Mittlerweile ist der Rock fast fertig, muss nur noch gesäumt werden. Ich habe ja schon mehrfach geäußert, dass ich kein Fan der Burda-Methode bin, die Rockoberkante mit einem Besatz zu verstürzen. Auch bei diesem Rock habe ich lieber wieder auf einen klassischen Taillenbund zurückgegriffen, gefällt mir einfach besser. Da der Rock im schrägen Fadenlauf zugeschnitten ist, darf er noch ein paar Tage aushängen, bevor ich mich an den Saum mache. In der Zwischenzeit überlege ich schon mal, wie die passende Bluse dazu aussehen soll.

Futterschnitt für einen Rock

Burda spart sich ja häufig das Futter bei Röcken, und wenn eines vorgesehen ist, wird es in der Regel nach dem gleichen Schnitt gearbeitet wie der Oberstoff, nur ein bißchen kürzer. Ich hatte zwar mal irgendwo gelesen, dass das Futter für einen Rock ein bißchen größer sein sollte als der Oberstoff, aber da keine Erklärung dabei war, warum und wieviel, habe ich diese Aussage bisher verdrängt.

Burda WOF is not very much into lining skirts at all, and if they suggest it should be done they don't offer an extra pattern but expect you to just cut the lining a little shorter than your fabric. I had read somewhere that the lining skirt should actually be a little wider than the skirt itself but since I couldn't find an explanation on why and how much I forgot about that.

My pattern construction book contains a whole chapter about skirt lining patterns. And they actually do add width and length to it, at least to the back. The front is just cut a little shorter. A small amount of width (about 1/5") is added to the center back, and the waist is raised about 3/8" in the center back. That is a simple alteration, easy to remember and to add to Burda patterns. The book doesn't give a detailed explanation on why this should be done either, it just mentions avoiding any strain on the lining.

In dem Buch nach Müller & Sohn ist aber ein Extra-Kapitel über den Futterschnitt drin. Und dort wird der Futterschnitt tatsächlich etwas größer konstruiert, zumindest an der rückwärtigen Rockbahn. Das Vorderteil wird wie bei Burda nur etwas kürzer zugeschnitten. Am Rückenteil wird jedoch in der hinteren Mitte ein halber Zentimeter Weite zugegeben und die Taille um 1 cm nach oben versetzt. Das ist eine einfache Änderung, leicht zu merken, und auch bei Burda-Schnitten in Zukunft gut umzusetzen. Als Erklärung wird übrigens nur angegeben, dass man dies tun solle, "um Spannung zu vermeiden".

Fertig!

Der Rock ist fertig, und es war ein ziemlicher Kampf mit dem Stoff! Ich habe den mit den Punkten vom Stoffmarkt genommen, und es hat sich herausgestellt, dass die Punkte ohne Rücksicht auf den Fadenlauf aufgedruckt wurden. Außerdem war der ganze Stoff sehr verzogen. Ich habe ewig gebraucht, bis ich zugeschnitten hatte, und das, wo ich Zuschneiden doch so ungern mache.

The skirt is finished but the fabric put up a big fight. I chose the one with the dots that I bought at the fabric market, and the dots were obviously printed without considering the grain line. The whole fabric was rather distorted, and it took me forever to cut the pieces. And I hate cutting anyway.

But I succeeded after all, and the skirt fits nicely. Now I have to make a blouse to wear with it. The pattern construction process was a lot of fun. I should really get on with my blouse pattern but I admit I don't feel like doing that right now. My sewing room is upstairs under the roof, and it is so hot that I can't think clearly up there right now.

Aber letztendlich habe ich doch gewonnen, und der Rock passt. Jetzt fehlt nur noch eine passende Bluse dazu. Die Konstruktion hat viel Spaß gemacht, ich sollte wirklich zusehen, dass ich mit dem Blusengrundschnitt weiterkomme. Aber im Moment habe ich einfach keine Lust dazu, besonders da mein Nähzimmer unter dem Dach ist und ich bei diesen Temperaturen da gar nicht klar denken kann.

Volantkonstruktion

Nach dem Erfolgserlebnis mit dem Rockgrundschnitt habe ich gleich mal angefangen, einen einfachen Schnitt zu konstruieren. Als Vorlage ausgesucht habe ich mir Rock 117 aus der Burda 03/2007. Den wollte ich im letzten Jahr schon mal nähen, dann hat der Stoff nicht gereicht. Der Schnitt sah einfach aus, und ich hatte ihn ja bereits fertig kopiert, so dass ich spicken konnte.

After the success with my skirt pattern I started working on a simple skirt. I decided to use skirt 117 from the March 2007 issue of Burda WOF as an inspiration. I wanted to sew that skirt last year but then I didn't have enough fabric. The pattern looked simple enough, and I had already copied the Burda pieces so I had something I could look at if I needed help.

The skirt itself pretty much stayed the same, I just cut off about 7" at the hem for the flounces. The wrapover piece was also easy to draw. It was more difficult to draw the flounces. My book explains well how to calculate the flounces for the straight hemline. I was successful there on my first try, and I also measured Burda's pattern piece and could follow their construction. But the flounce for the wrapover piece was another story altogether, there was no explanation in the book how to work with the curved hemline and the different angles.

Am Rock selbst war nichts zu ändern, lediglich unten musste ein Stück für den Volant abgetrennt werden. Die Überrockbahn war auch leicht zu zeichnen. Die Konstruktion der Volants war da schon problematischer. In dem Müller & Sohn-Buch ist zwar gut nachvollziehbar erklärt, wie der Volant für den Saum (bei gerader Rockkante) gezeichnet wird. Das hat auf Anhieb geklappt, und auch das Nachmessen des Burda-Teils hat mich da bestätigt. Aber der Volant für die Überrockbahn mit der schrägen Kante hat mir doch einiges Kopfzerbrechen bereitet, dazu steht im Buch gar nichts.

Ich habe dann das Schnitt-Teil von Burda ausgemessen und versucht, daraus Rückschlüsse zu ziehen und diese dann auf meine Maße zu übertragen. Daraus ist dann ein recht merkwürdiges Teil entstanden. Eigentlich hatte ich ja gedacht, ich könnte auf ein Probemodell verzichten, da sich der Rock an sich ja nicht verändert hat, aber bei dem Volant war ich mir dann doch zu unsicher.

I then measured Burda's pattern piece and tried to draw my own conclusions from that and to transfer these to my own measurements. I came up with a rather strange looking piece. Originally I had thought I could omit the muslin since I hadn't made any changes to the skirt itself, but the flounce pattern looked so strange I decided I had to make one anyway.

To save time (and fabric) I just cut off my sloper muslin and added the wrapover and flounce pieces. And believe it or not, it worked great! I love the muslin, the flounces look like they are supposed to. I have no idea if I was just lucky or if I was on the right track with my ideas. But I sure had a lot of fun with the drawing process, it was a welcome relief from doing the same boring alterations over and over again.
Um Arbeit (und Stoff) zu sparen, habe ich dann das Probemodell vom Grundschnitt unten abgeschnitten und die Überrockbahn und Volants angefügt. Und siehe da, es hat super geklappt. Das Probemodell gefällt mir gut, die Volants sehen aus wie geplant. Ob das jetzt Zufall war oder ob meine Ideen richtig waren - keine Ahnung. Auf jeden Fall hat die Bastelei großen Spaß gemacht, und es war schön, dass es mal was Anderes war und nicht immer die gleichen langweiligen Änderungen.

Grundschnitt für einen Rock

Mit meinem Blusengrundschnitt bin ich irgendwo steckengeblieben. An den Schulterblättern habe ich noch eine Falte, die ich ohne professionelle Hilfe wohl nicht wegbekomme, also habe ich das erstmal auf Eis gelegt.

I am stuck with my blouse sloper. There are still drag lines around the shoulder blades that I cannot get rid of. I will need professional help for that and therefore put that on hold.

For Christmas I received the book on pattern construction for skirts and pants, and I figured that a pattern for a skirt would be much easier to construct.

Seit Weihnachten habe ich aber auch das Konstruktionsbuch für Röcke und Hosen. Und ein Rockgrundschnitt kann ja nicht so schwierig sein - dachte ich. Theoretisch ist das auch ganz einfach. Die Differenz im Umfang zwischen Taille und Hüfte muss auf Seitennähte und Abnäher verteilt werden. Wie genau das geht, steht in dem Buch auch gut erklärt. Praktisch kommt es aber auch darauf an, ob die Proportionen zwischen Vorderlänge, rückwärtiger Länge und den Seitenlängen stimmen. Und wie sollte es auch anders sein, natürlich weicht bei mir mal wieder alles von der Norm ab.

And in theory, it is. The difference in the hip and waist measurements has to be distributed to the side seam and front and back dart. The book explains that process very well. But in reality it is also important that the front, back and side lengths are in due proportion to each other. And of course, my measurements were completely off.

I know that I have a sway back and my waist slips downward in the back. I found that out last year when I realized that my side seams tended to swing to the front. But the difference between front and back length was less than 1/4". That was not nearly enough. Fortunately there is a chapter on "difficult body types" which I studied intensely and then came to the conclusion that I had to take out more than 1/2" in the center back at the waist and add a little more than 3/8" in the center back further down. I added the same amount to the center front without changing the length of the side seam and kept my fingers crossed.

Dass ich ein ziemliches Hohlkreuz habe und meine Taille nach hinten abrutscht, habe ich ja schon im letzten Jahr herausgefunden. Merkwürdigerweise war die Längendifferenz zwischen vorn und hinten aber bloß ein halber Zentimeter. Das konnte nicht genug sein. Also habe ich eine Weile über den verschiedenen "schwierigen Figuren" von Müller und Sohn gebrütet und bin dann zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass ich oben 1,5 cm rausnehmen und weiter unten an der hinteren Mitte wieder 1 cm einfügen muss. An der vorderen Mitte fehlte ebenfalls 1 cm. Das habe ich dann einfach mal gemacht.

Gestern abend habe ich dann gleich noch schnell ein Probemodell genäht. An Marcy macht das nicht viel her, zumal ich nicht motiviert bin, sie an meine merkwürdigen Maße anzupassen, aber um es kurz zu machen: der Rock passt! Die Taille verläuft so wie in natura an mir auch, der Rock ist überall gleich lang, und die Seitennähte verlaufen gerade nach unten. Ich bin ganz beglückt, ein Erfolgserlebnis, und das auch noch auf Anhieb!
I made a muslin last night which Marcy shows here. It doesn't look like much especially since I am too lazy to adjust Marcy to my strange measurements. To come to the point: the skirt fits! The waistline follows my waistline, the length is the same everywhere, and the side seams hang straight. I am really excited that it worked out on the first try!

Der Rock ist fertig

Der letzte Sommerrock ist nun auch geschafft, das Wetter ist leider sehr herbstlich, so dass ich ihn wohl nicht mehr anziehen kann. Aber so bin ich jedenfalls schon mal für den nächsten Frühling gerüstet.

I finished my last summer skirt this weekend. Unfortunately fall is already here so I will probably not be able to wear it anytime soon. But I am definitely ready for spring!

The pleated panel didn't work with my fabric so I decided to omit it. It looked pretty nice on the flat skirt but after I put it on it poked out at weird angles and looked very strange. I think my fabric was just not soft enough.

Das Faltenteil habe ich letztendlich doch weggelassen. Es sah zwar ganz hübsch aus, aber stand sehr merkwürdig ab, wenn ich den Rock angezogen habe. Ich denke mal, es lag am Stoff, meiner war einfach nicht weich und fließend genug.

Für das Foto habe ich die Empire-Jacke rausgeholt, der Rock allein war doch ein bißchen langweilig :-)

Der Rockbund

Mir ist aufgefallen, dass in den Burda-Heften Röcke häufig einfach nur mit dem Futter verstürzt werden. Das habe ich einmal probiert, ist mir aber zu labberig. Ich greife lieber auf die Methode mit dem vorgefertigten Stanzband zum Aufbügeln zurück. In meinem Burda-Nähbuch ist diese auch beschrieben, nur in den Heften seltsamerweise nicht.

I noticed that Burda's instructions for skirts often omit the waistband. They just sew skirt and lining, often with a facing, right sides together, then flip the whole thing and call it a skirt. I tried that once but I find this too wobbly. I use an iron-on waistband that has already all the necessary markings. This method is described in my Burda sewing book, I wonder why they don't use it in the magazines.

I think there are different kinds of this waistband. I use the one that has not only the folding line marked but also the seam allowances. The seam allowance is a little smaller on one side, this is the side that is stitched to the skirt first.

Das Stanzband ist bereits mit allen notwendigen Markierungen versehen. Die Nahtzugaben sind auf beiden Seiten markiert. Dabei ist zu beachten, dass die Seite, auf der die Nahtzugabe geringfügig kleiner ist, als erstes an den Rock genäht wird.

Laut Anleitung auf der Packung soll das Band vor dem Zuschneiden auf den Stoff gebügelt werden. Ich persönlich greife zu Patchwork-Lineal und Rollschneider und schneide zuerst den Stoff zu. Dabei nicht vergessen, Länge für den Untertritt am Ende zuzugeben. Und natürlich für die Nahtzugaben an den Schmalkanten!

The instructions on the package say to iron the band onto the fabric and then cut it out. I prefer cutting the fabric first with my patchwork rulers and rotary cutter. Don't forget to add extra length so you can overlap the ends and of course the seam allowances for the short sides.

Iron the band to the left side of the fabric. There is no band on the seam allowances of the small sides.

Das Stanzband auf die linke Seite des Stoffes bügeln, dabei beachten, dass die Nahtzugabe der Schmalkanten nicht mit dem Band bebügelt wird.

Rock und Futter sollten an der Taillenkante bereits zusammengeheftet sein. Ich habe das mit der Maschine gemacht, und zwar eine Füßchenbreite (0,75 cm) vom Rand entfernt.

The lining should be basted to the skirt. I machine-baste 0,75 cm from the edge, that is exactly the width of my sewing-machine foot. The seam allowance of the skirt is 1,5 cm, the seam allowance of the waistband is only 0,75 cm. This way I can line up the waistband with the basting stitches. This works well using the metric system. I have no idea if this can be done if you are working with the imperial system. Please measure your iron-on waistband and the width of your sewing-machine foot before trying this.

Pin the side of the waistband with the smaller seam allowance to the waist of the skirt.

Die Ansatzkante des Bundes (schmalere Zugabe, siehe oben) rechts auf rechts auf die Taillenkante stecken. Die Taillenkante hat eine Nahtzugabe von 1,5 cm, das Stanzband jedoch nur 0,75 cm. Durch die Heftstiche, die genau 0,75 cm von der Taillenkante entfernt sind, kann ich mich jetzt gut orientieren, wo der Bund angesetzt werden muss.Auf dem Stanzband habe ich mir markiert, wo der Untertritt beginnt. Diese Linie muss bündig mit dem Reissverschluss gesteckt werden. Auf der anderen Seite muss das Ende des Stanzbandes bündig gesteckt werden, so dass die Nahtzugabe übersteht.

I marked where the overlapping area begins on the left side of the waistband. This marking has to be aligned with the zipper edge of the skirt. On the other side of the waistband the ironed-on band has to be aligned with the zipper edge with the seam allowance overlapping.

Stitch the waistband to the skirt, following the marked line. Flip the waistband open. The seam allowances are ironed towards the waistband and then trimmed.

Dann wird der Bund in der vorgestanzten Linie festgesteppt und anschließend hochgeklappt. Die Nahtzugaben werden in den Bund gebügelt und anschließend stufig zurückgeschnitten.

Den Bund an der mittleren Stanzlinie falten und rechts auf rechts (!) legen. Dann die Schmalkanten aufeinandersteppen. Das Bild ist leider unscharf geworden, ich habe die Nahtlinie daher rot markiert. Die Nahtzugaben zurückschneiden und zum Bruch hin schräg abschneiden.

Fold the waistband using the marked folding line right sides (!) together. Stitch the small sides of the waistband closed. Sorry for the blurry picture, the red marking is the stitching line. Trim the seam allowances, cut small triangles off towards the folding line.
Turn the waistband. Fold the seam allowance of the open side of the waistband inside and pin to the skirt.

Den Bund wenden, die Ecken vorsichtig ausstreichen. Dann die Nahtzugabe der noch offenen Kante nach innen legen und feststecken.

Den Bund von rechts schmalkantig absteppen, dabei wird die innere Lage des Bundes mitgefasst.

Stitch close to the seamline from the right side of the waistband. The inner part of the waistband will be caught in these stitches.

I stitch all the way around the waistband, on all four sides. I just think that looks better. And that's it!

Ich steppe die anderen Bundkanten ebenfalls ab, gefällt mir einfach besser. Und fertig!

Ein schneller Sommerrock

Obwohl der Herbst schon vor der Tür steht, wollte ich den letzten weißen Stoff noch schnell zu einem Rock verarbeiten. Ausgesucht hatte ich mir Modell 117 aus der Burda 03/2007. Der Schnitt war schon kopiert, erst als ich mit dem Zuschneiden beginnen wollte, merkte ich, dass der Stoff gar nicht reichte. Ich habe die Teile wild hin- und hergeschoben, aber es fehlte immer Platz für einen der Volants. Die Coupons waren mir mit "1,50 m"-Länge verkauft worden, aber schon der zweite Stoff war kürzer, allerdings nur wenig. Dieser Stoff hatte tatsächlich nur eine Länge von 1,10 m. Kein Wunder also, dass es nicht reichte.

Although fall is almost here I want to turn my last white fabric into a summer skirt. I chose skirt 117 from the March 2007 issue of Burda. After copying the pattern I tried to arrange the pieces on the fabric for cutting and realized that I didn't have enough fabric, no matter how I positioned them. I measured the fabric and found out that it was almost 16" shorter than the vendor on the market had said, so there was no chance of getting this skirt done with that fabric. Sommer temperatures had left Berlin overnight, today we had a high of only 55 F, it was still 74 F on Thursday. I was tempted to throw the hole project in a box and leave it for next year. But then I pulled myself together, I had everything here for a skirt, lining, zipper, button, it could not be too difficult to find a simple pattern for my fabric.

Nachdem der Sommer sich dann quasi über Nacht verabschiedet hatte und am Wochenende die Höchsttemperaturen mit 13°C 10 Grad unter denen der letzten Woche lagen, wollte ich das Projekt schon in die Ecke werfen. Doch dann habe ich mich zusammengerissen, Futter, Reißverschluss, Knopf, alles lag bereit, und es konnte doch wohl nicht so schwierig sein, einen Schnitt zu finden, für den mein Stoff reichen würde.
Ich erinnerte mich, in der aktuellen Burda einen Bleistiftrock gesehen zu haben, der nur hinten am Schlitz so ein Faltenteil zur Dekoration hatte, Rock 119. Diese seltsamen Schlaufen an den Abnähern lasse ich weg, und ich habe auch keinen Sinn darin gesehen, zwei Vorderteile zu schneiden und diese dann zusammenzunähen, sondern lieber gleich im Stoffbruch geschnitten. Der "Rohbau" ist fertig, jetzt werde ich mal sehen, ob mir das Faltenteil in natura auch gefällt, ansonsten lasse ich es einfach auch weg, dann wird der Rock eben ganz schlicht.

I remembered a pencil skirt from the current Burda issue that was a simple pattern with just a pleated panel in the back for decoration, skirt 119. I omitted those weird fabric loops at the darts, and I didn't see a reason why Burda wanted me to cut two front pieces, then stitch them together, so I cut the front as one piece. The basic skirt is finished, I will now go and look if I like the pleated panel otherwise I will omit that too and make just a very basic pencil skirt.

Rock und Jacke am lebenden Modell

Der Rock ist fertig, und ich bin sehr zufrieden damit. Er passt gut zu meiner pinkfarbenen Jacke, die ich übrigens sehr liebe und ständig trage. (Tut mir leid wegen der vielen Falten, ich hatte schon den ganzen Tag mit dem Rock gesessen.)

The skirt is finished, and I like it very much. It goes well with my pink jacket which I love and wear all the time. (Sorry about the wrinkles, I had been sitting with the skirt the whole day.)

Rock 131 aus Burda 02/2007

Aus den beiden anderen weißen Stoffen vom Stoffmarkt möchte ich Röcke nähen. Nach einigem Suchen habe ich mich für Rock 131 aus der Februar-Burda von 2007 entschieden. Der Rohbau ist auch schon fertig, Futter und Bund fehlen noch. (Ich habe mal zur technischen Zeichnung verlinkt, auf dem Foto sieht man - wie so oft - vom Schnitt nicht viel.)
I want to make skirts from the two other white fabrics I bought at the Dutch Fabric Market. After some research I chose skirt 131 from the February issue 2007 of Burda WOF. I already pieced the skirt itself, it is now waiting for lining and a waistband. (I linked the technical drawing, the picture doesn't show much of the skirt pattern.)

Der fertige Rock

So, endlich gibt es auch ein Bild von dem fertigen Rock am lebenden Modell. Ich bin ganz zufrieden damit, ich finde, er ist mir gut gelungen.

Der Rock ist fast fertig

Der Rock ist fast fertig, es fehlt nur noch das Futter. Er war einfach zu nähen und fällt auch schön, nur dieser lappige Besatz anstelle eines Bundes gefällt mir nicht so richtig. Ich glaube, das werde ich nicht wieder machen.

The skirt is almost finished, I just have to line it. It was easy to sew and looks good. The only thing I don't like is that Burda omitted the waistband and used facing instead. I think I will not do that again.

Rock 122 B aus Burda 03/2008

Als nächstes steht ein Rock auf dem Programm. Ich habe mir Modell 122B aus der März-Burda ausgesucht. Der Schnitt ist bereits kopiert und geändert. Der Rock wird im schrägen Fadenlauf zugeschnitten, ich bin gespannt, wie das wird.

My next project is going to be a skirt. I chose skirt 122 B from the March 2008 issue of Burda WOF and already copied and altered the pattern. The fabric is cut on the bias, I wonder how that will turn out.
