Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Den heutigen Tag haben wir im Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park verbracht. Der Gunnison River hat dort in den letzten 2 Millionen Jahren einen Canyon in das Gestein gegraben, der teilweise so steil ist, dass die Wände aufgrund des mangelnden Lichteinfalls schwarz erscheinen.

We spent today in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Two million years ago the Gunnison river started to wash out the rocks forming the deep canyon that we can see today. Some of the canyon walls are so steep that they look black because the sunlight does not reach them.





The vegetation is mainly pinon pine and juniper but we also saw a lot of oak. If you take the time to look carefully you can find many flowers and shrubs growing on the rim.

Die Vegetation besteht dort vor allem aus Kiefern und Wacholder, dazwischen fanden sich jedoch eine ganze Menge Büsche einer hier einheimischen Eichenart. Und wenn man sich Zeit nimmt und genau hinsieht, kann man eine Menge verschiedener Blumen und Pflanzen entdecken, die dort am Rand des Canyons wachsen.








Nachmittags fuhren wir dann nach Grand Junction und besichtigten das Dinosaurier Museum in Fruita. Das sollte man nicht verpassen, wenn man mit Kindern unterwegs ist.

In the afternoon we drove to Grand Junction and visited the Dinosaur Museum in Fruita, a place you shouldn't miss when you are traveling with children.
