Zicken-Puzzle letzter Teil: Golden Gate Bridge

In der blogfreien Zeit habe ich zwar nicht so sehr viel genäht, aber ein paar Sachen habe ich noch nachzureichen. Den Anfang macht heute der letzte Teil der Puzzle-Quilts der Zick-Zack-Zicken für alle, die unsere Werke in der Ausstellung in Teltow nicht live sehen konnten.

I didn't sew much during the time I stopped blogging but there are a few things I finished that I will show here. Today I present the last part of the Zick-Zack-Zicken sliced quilt project. We had an exhibition in the meantime but I not everybody could go there and see the quilts in reality so I decided to show it here again.

This is the picture I chose, a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge that my husband took back in 1997. It is actually a print of a slide that I scanned afterwards so please excuse the poor quality.

Es fehlte noch meine Vorlage, ein Foto der Golden Gate Bridge, das mein Mann im Oktober 1997 aufgenommen hat. Das Bild ist im Original ein Dia, den Abzug davon habe ich eingescannt, daher ist die Qualität nicht so optimal.

Ein Bild des fertigen Quilts hat Susanne ja schon im Blog der Zick-Zack-Zicken gepostet. Heute habe ich noch Bilder der einzelnen Teile gemacht, auf denen man vielleicht ein paar Details mehr erkennt.

Da Ines ja im letzten Sommer leider durch ihre Krankheit ausgefallen ist, habe ich zwei Puzzle-Teile selbst gemacht.

Since Ines couldn't sew last summer because of her illness I made two of the pieces myself.

Mantelmodell aus Papier

Der Mantelschnitt ist kopiert, gefaltet und anprobiert. Ich habe diesmal eine Nummer kleiner genommen als bei dem Kleid. Die Maßtabelle von Ottobre ist mit der von Burda identisch, allerdings glaube ich, dass ich auch hier wieder an Stellen basteln muss, die bei Burda passen. Im Brustbereich kommt es mir etwas eng vor, ebenso an der Hüfte, dafür ist an der Taille genug Platz. Und der Ärmel könnte ein paar Zentimeter länger sein. Aber das geht mir bei Burda auch so, offenbar habe ich (zu) lange Arme.

I traced the coat pattern, folded a paper coat and tried it on. I worked with one size smaller than I did with the dress. Ottobre's measurement chart is the same as Burda's but I think I will have to change a few things with the coat pattern that fit me with Burda WOF patterns. The bust area seems to be a little tight, probably also the hip area, the waist might be fine or maybe a little too wide. And the sleeve is at least 1" too short. But I have the same problem with Burda, obviously my arms are (too) long.

Das Kleid ist fertig! Mit der Anleitung in der Ottobre bin ich überhaupt nicht klar gekommen. Auch durch Ausprobieren konnte ich nicht herausfinden, wie ich das Kleid mit dem Futter an Halsausschnitt und Armausschnitten verstürzen soll, wenn die Schulternähte schon geschlossen sind. Ich habe dann entnervt aufgegeben und die Armausschnitte mit Schrägstreifen verstürzt, die ich innen auf dem Futter mit der Hand angenäht habe. Das ist zwar auch nicht die optimale Methode, sieht aber ordentlich aus.

I finished the dress today! I couldn't figure out the Ottobre instructions. I tried to follow them but I still don't see how I can sew dress and lining together at the neckline and the armholes and then turn the right side out when the shoulder seams are already closed. I finally gave up and used bias strips to finish the armholes. That might not be the best way to do it but it looks acceptable.

Yesterday, one of my cats crept into the sewing room without being noticed and went postal in there. The back of the Ottobre pattern can't be used anymore. I hope I don't want to make this dress again in the future.

Gestern hat sich übrigens eine der Katzen unbemerkt ins Nähzimmer geschlichen und dort randaliert. Das Rückenteil des Ottobre-Schnitts lässt sich jetzt wohl nicht mehr verwenden. Ich hoffe, mir fällt nicht irgendwann ein, dass ich das Kleid noch einmal nähen möchte.

Jetzt gehe ich mal den Mantelschnitt kopieren. Auch da habe ich schon wieder Probleme, die Anleitung in der Ottobre zu verstehen. Aber da grundsätzlich klar sein dürfte, welches Schnitt-Teil wohin gehört, wird das schon irgendwie klappen.

Now I am off to trace the pattern for the coat. I still don't get Ottobre's instructions there, either, but I think it cannot be too difficult to figure out where all the pieces go, so I am confident I will be able to make it.

Ein Wochenende in Wien

Nachdem wir den 40. Geburtstag meines Mannes letztes Jahr mehr oder weniger zufällig in New York verbracht haben, bin ich auf die Idee gekommen, an meinem 40. Geburtstag, der auf einen Sonntag fiel, ebenfalls zu verreisen. Eine europäische Stadt sollte es sein, und am liebsten ein paar Tage ohne Kind.

We spent my husband's 40th birthday last year in New York. We didn't really plan that but it gave me the idea that I wanted to spend my 40th birthday away from home, too. Conveniently, it fell on a Sunday, so I decided I wanted to do some sightseeing in an European city, preferably without our child.

I chose Vienna, we left our son with his grandmother and spent three wonderful days in Austria's capital. We had great summer weather and visited lots of sights like Stephan's Dome, Hofburg, Schönbrunn Castle, Prater with the famous Ferris Wheel, we even took a walk at Vienna's Central Cemetery where grand people like Beethoven are buried.

Die Wahl fiel auf Wien, unser Sohn wurde bei Oma abgeliefert, und wie verbrachten drei herrliche Tage bei wunderbarem Sommerwetter in Österreichs Hauptstadt. Stephansdom, Hofburg, Schönbrunn, Prater, sogar auf dem Zentralfriedhof sind wir herumgelaufen, wo so illustre Personen wie Beethoven begraben sind.

Ich bin sehr zufrieden...

... mit dem Kleid. Die Bastelei an dem Schnitt hat sich gelohnt, es passt super. Das Futterkleid ist auch schon fast fertig, allerdings ist mir die Anleitung von Ottobre, wie das Futter eingenäht werden soll, ein komplettes Rätsel. Irgendwie fehlt mir da wohl das räumliche Vorstellungsvermögen. Wenn es nicht klappt, nähe ich das Futter eben so ein, wie ich es immer mache, wird wohl keiner kontrollieren kommen :-)

I am really happy with the dress. All the changes I made worked out, it fits me very well. The lining dress is almost done as well, I just don't understand Ottobre's instructions how they want me to insert the lining. I think I have trouble visualizing what they describe. Well, if I can't figure that out, I will just insert the lining the way I always do it. I guess they won't come and check :-)

Kleid Ottobre 2009-02-17

Das ist das erste Modell, das ich nähe, das nicht von Burda ist. Also war ein Probemodell unbedingt nötig. Ich habe mich zunächst an der Maßtabelle orientiert und kam gleich zu ganz anderen Größen als bei Burda. Allerdings habe ich mich entweder beim Kopieren des Schnitts vertan oder die Proportionen bei Ottobre sind sehr seltsam. Das Probemodell passte an der Hüfte perfekt, an der Taille musste ich 5 cm zugeben, dafür im Brustbereich 6 cm rausnehmen. Dazu kamen noch die üblichen figurbedingten Änderungen (hängende Schultern, runder Rücken) und ein bißchen Kneifen am Ausschnitt. Jetzt bin ich ganz zufrieden und werde an diesem Wochenende loslegen.
This is my first project that is not a Burda WOF design. Therefore I had to make a muslin. I looked at the measurement chart and came up with sizes different from Burda. I don't know if I made a mistake while tracing the pattern or if Ottobre has strange proportions in their designs but I had to make quite a few changes. The hip area was fine, but I had to add 2" at the waist and take out 2 1/4" in the bust area in addition to the usual changes (sloping, forward shoulders, round back). I am satisfied with the outcome now and will start the dress this weekend.

Färbefest in Michendorf

Auch in diesem Jahr hat Kerstin uns wieder zum Färbefest in ihren Garten eingeladen. Das Wetter machte diesmal nicht ganz so mit, es war ziemlich kühl, aber der große Platzregen setzte zum Glück erst ein, als alles vorbei war.

Kerstin invited us back to her garden this year to dye fabrics. The weather wasn't as good as last year, it was rather cool, but the heavy rain didn't start until we were done.
I had no plan this year whatsoever, just mixed the dyes as I felt like. Obviously I was rather attracted to green and blue colors. And I didn't knead the bags with the fabric and dye very much which resulted in nice textures and light-dark-effects. I like my fabrics very much, I am quite surprised with the outcome especially since I worked without any prior planning.

Ich habe in diesem Jahr völlig ohne Plan gefärbt und war offenbar auf einem Grün-Blau-Trip. Außerdem war ich recht knetfaul, so dass ich hübsche Hell-Dunkel-Schattierungen auf den Stoffen habe. Ich bin sehr zufrieden, für völlig ohne Plan gefällt mir das Ergebnis gut.

Stoffmarkt in Potsdam

Am letzten Sonnabend war wieder Holländischer Stoffmarkt in Potsdam. Natürlich habe ich mich auch ins Gewühl gestürzt und ein paar schöne Stücke erbeutet.

Last Saturday the Dutch Fabric Market came back to Potsdam. Of course I had to go there, and I did find some nice stuff.

Was aus diesen Stoffen werden soll, wussten Ines und ihre Tochter nach einem Blick in meine Tüte sofort. Wer die aktuellen Schnittmusterhefte nicht so im Kopf hat, darf hier spicken.

Und das sind meine weiteren Beutestücke, dafür existieren noch keine genauen Pläne.

I have no specific plans for my other purchases yet.

Am Montag bin ich dann gleich noch zu Hüco gefahren und habe Futter, Reißverschlüsse und Knöpfe besorgt, jetzt bin ich für alle Fälle gerüstet.

On Monday I went to Hüco (my favorite fabric store in Berlin) and stocked up on lining, zippers and buttons. Now I will be ready when inspiration hits!

Hexagons

Den letzten Anstoß zum erneuten Bloggen hat mir das Geburtstagsgeschenk meiner Zick-Zack-Zicken gegeben. Im September 2005, lange bevor an die Zicken zu denken war, kannte ich nur Ivana, Anke und Susanne. Bei einem Treffen zeigte Anke ein Foto von einem Quilt, der vor allem aus Hexagons bestand, die die Näherin als Geburtstagsgeschenk erhalten hatte. Damals habe ich leichtfertig geäußert, als Geburtstagsgeschenk würde ich Hexagons auch nehmen.

The last trigger to start blogging again was the birthday gift my Zick-Zack-Zicken gave me. Back in 2005 I only knew Ivana, Anke and Susanne. Anke showed us a picture of a quilt that was made mostly with hexagons received as a birthday gift. Well, back then I carelessly said I would take hexagons as a birthday gift, too.

Of course my Zicken did not forget I said that, and after turning 40 this May I received a big box of tiny hexagons last weekend, they measure 1/2" in length. I did not count them but there are more than 700 in the box.

Natürlich haben meine lieben Zicken diesen Spruch nicht vergessen, und nachdem ich im Mai 40 geworden bin, bekam ich letzte Woche einen großen Karton voller winziger Hexagons überreicht, Kantenlänge 1/2 Inch. Ich habe sie nicht gezählt, aber es sollen wohl über 700 Stück sein.

Ich habe dann gleich den Abend damit verbracht, die Hexagons grob nach Farben zu sortieren. Einen Entwurf hatte ich 2005 gleich mit EQ gemacht, ich muss die Sache wohl doch ernster genommen haben, als mir heute bewußt ist.

I spent that evening sorting hexagons according to colors. I had even designed a layout in EQ back in 2005, obviously I was more serious about this hexagon thing than I remember.

My cats were very interested in the sorting process. Sally absolutely had to sit in the new box right away.

Und natürlich fanden auch die Katzen die Aktion sehr spannend, und Sally musste gleich in der neuen Schachtel zur Probe sitzen.

Am nächsten Morgen habe ich dann die ersten Hexagons zusammengenäht. Das Foto täuscht, sie sind nicht so groß, wie sie aussehen.

The next day I stitched the first hexagons together. Don't let the picture fool you, they are smaller than they appear.

Wieder da!

Nach fast acht Monaten ohne Blog habe ich mich entschlossen, nun doch weiterzumachen. In der Zwischenzeit hat sich bei mir eine Menge geändert, ich arbeite fast doppelt so viele Stunden wie früher, und im September kommen vermutlich noch einige dazu. Da ich jedoch zu den Menschen gehören, die unter Druck am besten arbeiten, bin ich zuversichtlich, Nähen und Bloggen auch zukünftig unterbringen zu können, auch wenn es vielleicht nicht mehr so häufig ist wie im letzten Jahr.

After almost eight months without blogging I decided last week to come back. My life went through a lot of changes in the meantime, I work almost twice as much as last year and will probably start working even more hours in September. But since I work best under pressure I am confident I will be able to squeeze sewing and blogging into my schedule although I might not write as much as last year.

In a frenzy I deleted my whole blog including the archives last year :-( I still have all the pictures but most of my writing is gone. Being a perfectionist I will try to reconstruct as much as possible over time.

Leider habe ich damals in einem Anfall von Wahn den gesamten Blog inklusive Archiv gelöscht :-( Die Bilder habe ich noch alle, von den Texten allerdings nur noch sehr wenige, aber als Perfektionistin werde ich im Laufe der Zeit versuchen, möglichst viel zu rekonstruieren.

Ich habe die ganze Woche damit verbracht, am CSS-Code zu basteln, um das Layout wieder so hinzubekommen, wie es einmal war. Da ich davon absolut keine Ahnung habe, möchte ich hier all den Leuten danken, die Computer Dummies wie mir dabei helfen. Wertvolle Informationen (leider nur auf Englisch) habe ich auf diesen Seiten gefunden:Blogger Tips and Tricks, Blogger University, The Blog Doctor und The Liberal Banana.

I spent this week messing with my blog's CSS code to get the layout as close as possible to my old one. Since I am absolutely clueless about computer codes I would like to thank those people that help dummies like me.
