Geburtstagskarten

Zu meinem Geburtstag habe ich wieder hübsche Karten bekommen. Und von Sabine gab es zusätzlich noch zwei wunderschöne Sonnendruckstöffchen. Vielen Dank!

Gequiltet im Akkord

... habe ich die Frühchentops, die ich in Wahlsdorf genäht habe. Vlies hatte ich noch genug, und was weg ist, ist weg. Ansonsten hätten sie vermutlich wieder lange im Schrank gelegen, und kurz vor dem nächsten Treffen mit Antje wären dann Nachtschichten fällig gewesen. Jetzt fehlt bei allen vier Stück nur noch das Binding. Habe ich schon mal erwähnt, dass ich Binding nähen hasse? Randeinfassungen für vier Quilts, das dürfte Monate dauern :)

I already machine-quilted all four tops I made two weeks ago. I had enough batting left and thought I should do it right away. Otherwise I would probably forget about them until the next meeting with Antje and then work myself into a frenzy to get them finished on time. Now all I have to do is bind them. Did I ever mention that I hate binding a quilt? And now four of them... that will take me months :)

Nachgereicht

... wird nun endlich das Foto des fertigen Rocks. Gesäumt habe ich ihn schon vor drei Wochen, ich wollte ihn ja gern zusammen mit der Bluse in Wahlsdorf vorführen. Leider hat mir das Wetter einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht, und Marcy hat das Ensemble bis heute getragen :(

Here is finally a picture of the finished skirt. I hemmed it three weeks ago, the plan was to wear skirt and blouse in Wahlsdorf but it wasn't warm enough for that. As we are still waiting for nice spring weather in Berlin, Marcy has been wearing blouse and skirt until today :(

Sentimental Journey Sampler Top

Nachdem nun die Shoo-Fly-Blöcke für die Ränder fertig waren, habe ich mich tatsächlich am letzten Wochenende aufgerafft und das Top vom Sentimental Journey Sampler beendet. Ich bin noch etwas unentschlossen, ob mir der gelbe äußere Rand wirklich gefällt. Und wie ich quilten will, weiß ich auch noch nicht.

I finished the Sentimental Journey Sampler top last weekend. Since I made the shoo fly blocks in Wahlsdorf two weeks ago I thought it would be a good idea to do it right away. I am still undecided if I like the yellow border. And I have no idea yet how to quilt it.

Die fertige Tasche

Gerade eben habe ich den Knopf angenäht, jetzt ist die Tasche offiziell fertig. Am Schnitt selbst habe ich nichts verändert, lediglich ein paar Details sind anders. Die Griffe habe ich gekauft und nicht aus Stoff selbst gemacht, allerdings musste ich die kleinen Schlaufen für die Befestigung herstellen, das ging sicher auch nicht schneller. Mir haben bloß die Griffe gut gefallen.

I just sewed on the button, now the bag is officially finished. I didn't alter the pattern, just a few details. I bought the handles instead of making them myself out of fabric. But I did have to make the little fabric loops to attach the handles, so this probably didn't go any faster. I just liked the handles very much.

The bag is open at the top and closes with a snap-fastener in the middle. This is not a good idea in a city like Berlin. The bag contains a small inner pocket which closes with velcro. I omitted the velcro, used a zipper instead and added the pocket more towards the bottom of the bag, so I hope my money will be safe in there. And I even thought of adding a bias strip with a snap hook so I won't have to hunt down my keys in the big bag.

Die Tasche ist oben offen und wird nur durch die Lasche in der Mitte mit einem Druckknopf verschlossen. Wenn man in Berlin unterwegs ist, ist das keine gute Idee, zumal die Innentasche auch nur mit ein bißchen Klettband verschlossen werden sollte. Also habe ich in die Innentasche einen Reißverschluss eingenäht und sie auch weiter unten in der Tasche befestigt, so dass mein Portemonnaie einigermaßen sicher sein dürfte. Und ich habe tatsächlich auch daran gedacht, ein Band mit einem Karabinerhaken einzunähen, so dass die Schlüsselsucherei nun hoffentlich ein Ende hat.

An beiden Seiten im oberen Bereich, aber unterhalb des Bundes, wo der Seitenstreifen endet, soll die Tasche mit ein bißchen Klettband zusammengehalten werden. Das habe ich bei meiner letzten Tasche so gemacht, und es ist nicht die optimale Lösung. Das Klettband hält auch nicht ewig, es zieht Fusseln wunderbar an, und man bleibt doch gern irgendwo hängen. In Wahlsdorf hatten wir überlegt, ob man das Klettband vielleicht durch Druckknöpfe ersetzen könnte. Das habe ich probiert, aber das sah nicht schön aus. Letztendlich habe ich an den Stellen einfach 2 cm knappkantig zusammengesteppt. Die Tasche geht immer noch weit genug auf, und es sieht besser aus als mit Klett oder Druckknöpfen.

At both sides in the upper area, below the top band the instructions asked for two patches of velcro. I did it this way with my last bag but wasn't completely satisfied with it. Velcro doesn't last forever, lint and dirt get attached to it, and I tend to get it stuck on my clothes. Last weekend at Wahlsdorf we considered using snap-fasteners instead of the velcro. I tried that, but I didn't like the look. I finally stitched the sides together for about 1". I can still open the bag wide enough, and I like the look much better than with velcro or snap-fasteners.

Projekt für den Feiertag

In Blossin hat Renate ein Tasche genäht, die allgemein großen Anklang fand. Leider habe ich nur ein Bild davon, und das ist nicht besonders gut, es wird der Tasche wirklich nicht gerecht.

At the Blossin retreat Renat made a bag that we all liked very much. Unfortunately I only took one picture which is not very good, the bag looks much nicer in reality.

Last weekend in Wahlsdorf I found a fabric I absolutely had to buy. Tomorrow is a holiday in Germany, and I will try to turn that fabric into a bag then. I bought the other things I need for that project today. Since I will probably change a few things about the bag I am not sure yet if I will have enough time to finish it tomorrow.

Am letzten Wochenende in Wahlsdorf musste ich dann einen Stoff mitnehmen, auf dem mein Name stand :) Den will ich morgen zu einer Tasche verarbeiten. Die weiteren Zutaten habe ich heute besorgt. Ein paar Änderungen zu Renates Modell will ich vornehmen, mal sehen, wie weit ich komme.

Dreieinhalb Frühchentops

... sowie acht kleine Shoo-Fly-Blöcke und noch ein paar Hexagons habe ich am Wochenende genäht. Das vierte Top hätte ich auch noch in Wahlsdorf geschafft, aber mir fehlten leider zwei Quadrate. Offenbar hatte ich mich beim Zuschneiden verzählt, und natürlich hatte ich den restlichen Stoff nicht mitgenommen. Aber ich hatte noch Schwung und habe das Top dann gestern abend noch beendet.

I stitched three and a half tops for preterm baby quilts, eight small shoo fly blocks and a few hexagons during our sewing weekend. I had enough time to finish the fourth top but for some reason I had not cut enough squares, two were missing. And of course I didn't pack the rest of the fabric. But I was still in a sewing mood after I got home last night and finished the fourth top right away.

The small blocks are for the borders of the Sentimental Journey Sampler. I began sewing them yesterday morning before breakfast, andI did pay attention this time and managed to arrange the cream-colored fabric pieces correctly, so all stripes face in the same direction.

Die kleinen Blöcke brauche ich für die Ränder vom Sentimental Journey Sampler. Obwohl ich sie gestern morgen schon vor dem Frühstück begonnen habe, habe ich diesmal gut aufgepasst und keinen Fehler eingebaut, so dass die Streifen auf dem hellen Stoff alle in die gleiche Richtung verlaufen.

Meine Hexagons habe ich seit einem halben Jahr nicht mehr angesehen, daher musste ich mich erstmal durch meine Kiste sortieren und mir überlegen, wo genau ich eigentlich war. Viel habe ich in Wahlsdorf nicht geschafft, und die drei Reihen, die ich aneinander genäht habe, sind nicht wirklich zeigenswert :)

I didn't get any work done on my hexagons for about half a year, so I had to sort through the box trying to remember where I had stopped and what I had wanted to do next. Therefore I didn't get a lot done with that project, and the three rows of hexagons I managed to stitch together are not impressive enough to warrant a picture :)

Zicken in Wahlsdorf

Dieses Wochenende habe ich wieder mit den Zick-Zack-Zicken in Wahlsdorf verbracht. Es war nur eine kleine Gruppe, krankheitsbedingt sind leider einige ausgefallen. Dafür hatten wir jede Menge Platz und wie immer viel Spaß. Auch das Wetter hat mitgespielt, und wir konnten zeitweise sogar draußen sitzen.

I just came home from another Zick-Zack-Zicken sewing weekend in Wahlsdorf. A few members couldn't attend because of health issues so we were a rather small group this time. We had lots of fun anyway, and the weather cooperated, we could even sit outside in the afternoon and for dinner last night. We got a lot of sewing done and showed a few works in progress. I am already looking forward to our next weekend there in November (although it will be too cold then for a barbecue).

Wir haben fleißig genäht und auch ein Mini-Show & Tell gehabt. Für unser leibliches Wohl haben wie immer Walters gesorgt, der Kuchen war sehr lecker, und Herr Walter hat für uns gegrillt. Ich freue mich schon auf November (auch wenn es dann zum Grillen leider zu kalt sein wird).

Bluse mit Falten

Die Bluse ist fertig und passt auch gut zum Rock. Den habe ich leider immer noch nicht gesäumt, so dass es noch kein Foto der fertigen Kombination gibt.

I finished the blouse last night, and it goes well with the skirt. I didn't hem that yet, so there is no picture available of skirt and blouse together.

It fits well, constructing the sloper was really the most difficult part. The alterations for the pattern details are a lot of fun and work well so far. I am just not satisfied with the sleeves. I didn't change the cap or armhole but I somehow couldn't set in the sleeves smoothly although it worked well with the last blouse.

Die Passform ist gut, das Schwierigste an der Konstruktion war wirklich der Grundschnitt, die Detailänderungen machen echt Spaß und klappen gut. Allerdings bin ich mit den Ärmeln nicht zufrieden. Armkugel und Armloch habe ich nicht verändert, trotzdem ist es mir nicht gelungen, die Ärmel ohne Fältchen einzusetzen. Bei der letzten Bluse hat das noch problemlos geklappt.

Zum Glück sieht es an beiden Ärmeln gleich schrecklich aus, also tue ich jetzt so, als hätte ich die Ärmel absichtlich gekräuselt eingesetzt. Aber die Einhalteweite bei meinem Ärmel werde ich noch mal überarbeiten.

Since both sleeves look the same I decided to pretend I did it on purpose. But I will definitely try to reduce the sleeve caps before I try to make another blouse.
