Ein Versuch

Nicht, dass ich noch ein Hobby brauchen würde... aber ich habe schon seit einiger Zeit darüber nachgedacht, ob ich nicht mal selbst Modeschmuck herstellen soll. Versucht habe ich das noch nie, wenn man mal vom Nudeln auffädeln im Kindergarten absieht, und irgendwie habe ich das Gefühl, dass das nicht wirklich zählt. Aber ich habe immerhin schon ein paar Halsketten repariert, und das fand ich nicht besonders schwierig, also habe ich seit einiger Zeit die Augen offen gehalten. Das Internet ist ja voll von Informationen, und wenn man keine Ahnung hat, wo fängt man da an? Das Auffädeln von Perlen erscheint mir doch relativ einfach, und dann fand ich dieses Tutorial von Sandra D. Halpenny (in Englisch, aber die Bilder sind eigentlich selbsterklärend) und beschloss, es einfach mal zu versuchen. Von meinen Reparaturaktionen hatte ich noch Perlenfaden, und ein winzige Perlensammlung habe ich auch, bisher ist sie aber wirklich nicht der Rede wert, also machte ich mich an ein Übungsstück.

Not that I need another hobby... but I have been thinking about beading and making my own jewelry for some time. I have never tried this before other than making the usual macaroni necklaces in kindergarten, and somehow I don't think that really counts. I have repaired a few broken necklaces though, and I didn't find that too difficult, so I have been looking around for a while. There is so much information online, and when you have no clue, where do you start? Stringing beads seemed to be relatively easy, and I came across this tutorial by Sandra D. Halpenny and decided to give it a try. I had beading thread left over from my repairs, and I also have a very small bead collection, so I set out to made a practice piece. 

I had to start over several times because I couldn't figure out how much thread I needed, and it was always too short. And my fingertips are still a little numb, so I don't have the best fine motor skills right now which wasn't helpful either. Oh, and once again I realized I need new reading glasses... I have a daylight lamp but I still found those tiny beads impossible to see. But I finished the heart, and it was fun, and I will try to turn this (well, not this heart as I think it is too pale, but this pattern) into a Valentine's necklace... I already have some ideas. For the picture I placed the heart on one of the 3" 365 Challenge blocks, that gives you an idea how small it actually is.

Ich musste mehrfach von vorn anfangen, weil ich nicht genug Faden hatte, das Stück, das ich abgeschnitten hatte, war immer zu kurz. Und meine Fingerspitzen sind immer noch ein bißchen taub, so dass meine motorischen Fähigkeiten etwas eingeschränkt sind, das hat auch nicht gerade geholfen. Oh, und dann fiel mir mal wieder auf, dass ich dringend eine neue Lesebrille brauche... Ich habe zwar eine Tageslichtlampe, aber ich hatte doch Schwierigkeiten, diese winzigen Perlen richtig zu sehen, von den Löchern wollen wir mal gar nicht reden. Aber ich habe es letztendlich geschafft, und Spaß gemacht hat es auch, und ich werde daraus (also, nicht aus diesem Herz, das ist mir zu blässlich, aber mit Hilfe dieser Anleitung) eine Halskette zum Valentinstag machen... Ideen habe ich schon reichlich. Für das Bild habe ich das Herz übrigens auf einen der 7.5 cm Blöcke der 365 Challenge gelegt, das gibt dann mal einen Eindruck, wie groß oder klein es eigentlich ist.
