Weiche Post

Irgendwie sind wir in Wahlsdorf auf Mrs Beeton gekommen, und als ich wieder zu Hause war, habe ich spontan Wolle dafür bestellt, damit der Winter nicht wieder vorbei ist und ich das Projekt erneut auf das nächste Jahr verschiebe. Ich habe sogar einen Shop ergoogelt, der noch beide Garnsorten vorrätig hatte, die beim Original verwendet wurden - dachte ich zumindest.

Mrs Beeton is a project that I had wanted to make last winter but somehow forgot. We talked about it last weekend and I decided to order yarn right away to get it done this winter and give procrastination no chance. I googled and found an online shop that carried both yarns that were used in the original project - at least that was what I thought.

The morning after I had placed my order the phone rang and a very nice lady from "Wolle & Design" called to let me know that one of the yarns was discontinued and the color I had chosen was not available anymore. She recommended another yarn I could use, then went through her whole store to find color combinations I might like while I was looking at the color charts online trying to imagine what it would look like. After about ten minutes we settled on a combination that we both thought looked nice.
Gleich am Morgen nach der Bestellung klingelte das Telefon, und eine sehr nette Frau von "Wolle & Design" teilte mit, dass das eine Garn leider nicht mehr produziert und die von mir gewählte Farbe in den Restbeständen nicht mehr vorhanden sei. Sie hat mir ein Ersatzgarn empfohlen und dann zehn Minuten lang ihr Lager inspiziert, passende Farbkombinationen der beiden Garne gesucht und mir die Farbnummern durchgegeben, während ich am Computer saß und die Farbkarten verglichen habe, bis wir beide mit der Wahl zufrieden waren.

Am nächsten Tag war die Wolle dann auch schon in meinem Briefkasten. Die Perlen hatte ich auf gut Glück hier vor Ort gekauft, wo der Service übrigens miserabel und die Verkäufer unfreundlich waren (ich sage jetzt mal nicht, wo das war, der Laden hat eigentlich einen guten Ruf, aber mit dieser speziellen Abteilung hatte ich schon immer Probleme).

My order arrived the very next day. I had bought the beads at a local store, hoping the colors would match the yarn. After the delightful experience with the online shop lady I have to mention that the salespeople at the local shop were rude and service was almost non-existent. And they wonder why people shop online?

I already started knitting, and it made me remember why I don't knit socks. All these needles drive me crazy, I am sure I will end up with a knot in my fingers. And the fluffy mohair yarn is not helping either. But it is worth the effort, the first bell edging is done and it looks very nice. And let me mention that I am really thankful that there is a German translation available... English knitting instructions are a foreign language I have yet to learn :)

Angefangen habe ich schon, und ich weiß jetzt wieder, warum ich keine Socken stricke. Diese vielen Nadeln machen mich wahnsinnig, da breche ich mir die Finger. Und das fisselige Mohairgarn ist auch nicht wirklich hilfreich. Aber die Mühe lohnt sich, der erste Glockenrand ist schon fertig und gefällt mir gut. In diesem Fall bin ich übrigens sehr dankbar für die deutsche Übersetzung, die englische Strickanleitung ist eine Fremdsprache, die ich erst noch lernen muss :)
