Heute haben wir noch einen Tag in Yellowstone verbracht. Neben weiteren Geysiren und heißen Quellen haben wir auch im Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone die Wasserfälle bewundert. Außerdem haben wir im Canyon Village Visitor Center die exzellente Ausstellung über den Supervulkan besucht. Fast der gesamte Park ist ein riesiger Krater mit einer gewaltigen Magmakammer unter der Oberfläche. Der letzte Ausbruch fand vor 600.000 Jahren statt. Theoretisch könnte es jederzeit erneut zu einem Ausbruch kommen, es hat sich ein Eruptionszyklus von ca. 650.000 Jahren eingependelt.
Today we spent another day in Yellowstone. We saw more geysers and hot springs and visited the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with its beautiful waterfalls. The Canyon Village Visitor Center offers a very interesting exhibition on the Yellowstone Supervolcano. Most of the park area forms a giant caldera with a huge magma chamber under the surface. The last eruption took place about 600,000 years ago. The eruption cycle is about 650,000 years so another eruption could take place any time.
On our way back we saw a moose cow on the slopes of Mount Washburn. There was a huge crowd gathered on the road, and I couldn't take a picture of the moose, I am just happy that we actually saw one. 
Auf dem Rückweg über den Mount Washburn sahen wir dann am Wegesrand tatsächlich eine Elchkuh! Auch hier hatte sich wieder eine große Menschenmenge versammelt, und es ist mir nicht gelungen, ein Foto zu machen, wichtiger war es doch, einen Blick auf das Tier zu erhaschen.
