Simflex Gauge

Gestern musste ich nach Vancouver fahren, und da ich ja schon mal da war, hielt ich auch gleich beim Großhändler, um eine Rolle Vlies und ein paar andere Kleinigkeiten zu besorgen. Unter anderem kaufte ich eine "Simflex Expanding Sewing Gauge". Das Teil hatte ich online gesehen und dachte mir, das ließe sich beim Quilten sicher gut gebrauchen. Oder falls ich doch mal wieder Kleidung nähen will, damit lassen sich Knopflöcher markieren, ohne dass man messen und rechnen muss. Als ich wieder zu Hause war, habe ich es gleich ausprobiert. Der Quilt, den ich auf dem Rahmen hatte, brauchte keine akribische Rechnerei, aber halbwegs gleichmäßig wollte ich das Paisley im Rand dann doch verteilen. Dabei war die Simflex Gauge wirklich nützlich. Ich stellte sie auf die ungefähre Breite eines Elements ein und legte sie dann nur auf den Quilt. Man kann natürlich auch markieren, das war hier aber nicht nötig, das Auflegen hat ausgereicht, und es war praktisch, dass ich genau sehen konnte, welche Fläche ich pro Element füllen musste. Das könnte glatt mein neues Lieblingswerkzeug werden!

I had to go to Vancouver yesterday, and since I was there anyway I stopped at my favourite notions wholesale place to pick up a roll of batting and a few other things. I bought a Simflex Expanding Sewing Gauge, I had seen that thing online and thought it would be really good for quilting. It would also be handy for marking evenly spaced buttonholes, should I ever want to sew clothes again. After I got home I tried it right away. I was working on a quilt that didn't need elaborate measuring but I wanted to space the border elements evenly while just eyeballing it, and the gauge was very helpful. I figured out an approximate width, set the gauge on the quilt and started quilting. I didn't bother marking anything for this particular project but it was still quite helpful to see what space I needed to cover with the next element. This could easily be my new favourite tool!
