Quilt Judging beim Chilliwack Fair

Letzte Woche hatte die Gilde eine Email von der Chilliwack Agricultural Society erhalten, dort war man auf der Suche nach Preisrichtern, und sie fragten an, ob Mitglieder der Gilde daran interessiert wären, die Quilts beim diesjährigen Chilliwack Fair zu beurteilen. Ich fand, das hörte sich interessant an und meldete mich freiwillig. Der Chilliwack Fair findet an diesem Wochenende statt, und die Preise werden vor der Eröffnung vergeben. Wir gehen zwar regelmäßig dorthin zum Rodeo, aber mir war nicht einmal bewusst, dass dort auch Quilts gezeigt werden. Aber es stellte sich heraus, dass es Wettbewerbe für alles gab, neben Quilts und anderen Handarbeiten auch z.B. für Lego und natürlich Blumen, Obst und Gemüse. Und es stellte sich auch heraus, dass sich außer mir niemand gemeldet hatte und ich damit die einzige Preisrichterin für Quiltiges war. Es war keine riesige Show, die Zahl der Projekte, die ich zu bewerten hatte, hielt sich in Grenzen, aber es gab jede Menge Kategorien, so dass ich viele Schleifen verteilen konnte. Das war mal etwas Anderes und hat viel Spaß gemacht, das würde ich im nächsten Jahr glatt wieder machen.

Last week the guild received an email that the Chilliwack Agricultural Society was still looking for judges for the annual fair that takes place this weekend, and they asked if any guild members were interested in judging the quilts. I thought that sounded like fun, so I volunteered. I wasn't even aware that there was a quilting section at the fair. We usually go for the rodeo but we had never seen quilts there. It turned out that there were a lot of competitions going on, from quilts and needlework to Lego and flowers and vegetables. And it also turned out that I was the only one who had volunteered to judge the quilts. There weren't that many entries but lots of categories, so I handed out lots of ribbons. It was a lot of fun, I wouldn't mind doing it again next year.
