Alle Blöcke fertig

Geschafft! Alle 25 Ohio Stars sind fertig. Jetzt muss ich mich nur noch entscheiden, wie genau ich sie zusammennähe. Bisher hängen sie nur nach Farben sortiert an der Designwand.

I am done! All 25 Ohio Star blocks are finished. Now I will have to decide how to put them together. Right now they are on the design wall, sorted by color.

Grundschnitt für eine Bluse

Zum Geburtstag habe ich das ersehnte Buch über Schnittkonstruktion bekommen. Nachdem ich aufgrund meines runden Rückens, meiner hängenden Schultern und meines Hohlkreuzes an Fertigschnitten immer soviel ändern muss, bin ich durch Berry auf die Idee gekommen, es einmal selbst mit der Schnittkonstruktion zu versuchen.

For my birthday, I received a book about pattern construction. I always have to do a lot of alterations in commercial patterns since I have a very round back, sloping and forward shoulders and a sway back. Following Berry's blog and her pattern construction adventures I decided to give it a try, too.

The book explains the construction process very well. I drew a sloper for a blouse without a problem. It is not finished yet, I still have to alter the upper back area to fit to my round back. But I think it looks very promising.

Die Konstruktion selbst ist Schritt für Schritt sehr nachvollziehbar erklärt. Der Blusengrundschnitt hat keine Probleme bereitet. Allerdings bin ich noch nicht ganz fertig geworden, die Längenanpassung für den runden Rücken fehlt noch. Aber es sieht schon mal ganz vielversprechend aus.

Body Graph

In dem Buch "Fit for Real People" ist erklärt, wie man einen Body Graph erstellt, um die Proportionen des eigenen Körperbaus herauszufinden. Das wollte ich schon immer mal machen, und heute kam meine Freundin Ivana, und wir haben das gemeinsam in Angriff genommen.

The book "Fit for Real People" contains instructions how to create your own body graph. I have always wanted to try that, and today my friend Ivana came over, and we did it together.
I always knew that I have sloping shoulders but I never realized that one slope is steeper than the other. And without today's experiment I wouldn't have found out about my uneven hips.

Dass ich hängende Schultern habe, war mir ja schon länger klar, aber dass sie so ungleichmäßig sind, ist mir erst heute aufgefallen. Und dass meine Hüften auch ungleichmäßig sind, hätte ich ohne dieses Experiment nicht herausgefunden.

Wer Lust hat, auch einen Body Graph zu erstellen und das Buch nicht besitzt, kann auch die Anleitung von Sew & Sushi verwenden. Der Prototyp

Heute habe ich mal einen Prototypen genäht, gefällt mir gut und hat auch nicht lange gedauert. Das sollte vor dem Urlaub noch zu schaffen sein.

Today I made a test block for the Ohio Star quilt. I like it and it didn't take long. I should be able to finish this quilt before our vacation.

I finished three blocks in the meantime. I am not sure yet in which order I will put them together for the quilt.

Mittlerweile sind schon drei Blöcke fertig. Mal sehen, wie ich sie farblich sortiere.

Der absolute Knaller

... ist die pinkfarbene Jacke! Ich liebe sie, sie ist wirklich toll geworden!

I finished the pink jacket, and I really, really love it!

Burda WOF did some decorative stitching on the seams using contrasting thread. I didn't like that with my pink fabric, so I chose pink machine embroidery thread and stitched along the seams with an elastic zig-zag stitch.


Burda hatte die Nähte im Zick-Zack mit kontrastfarbenem Garn abgesteppt. Das hat mir bei meinem Stoff nicht so gefallen. Ich habe jetzt pinkfarbenes Stickgarn genommen und mit genähtem Zick-Zick-Stich gesteppt.

Sieht schon ganz gut aus

Die Jacke ist zusammengenäht, jetzt kommt die Feinarbeit. Bisher gefällt sie mir wirklich gut. Sie ist toll geschnitten, ein bißchen auf Figur, und ich glaube, die Passform ist mir auch ganz gut gelungen. Und diese kleinen Einsätze am Ausschnitt gefallen mir sehr gut.
I stitched the jacket pieces together, now on to the smaller things. I really like the jacket so far. The pattern is great, and I think I did a good job with the fitting. And the neckline looks very interesting.

Ohio Stars

Bevor es ans Vernähen der Beute vom Holländischen Stoffmarkt geht, steht aber erst mal noch ein Quilt auf der To-Do-Liste. Mein Bruder, der in Mexiko lebt, wird im Juli zum ersten Mal Vater, und natürlich muss da ein Baby-Quilt her. Als Muster habe ich den "Ohio Star" gewählt, klassisch und immer wieder schön. Hier kommt mein Entwurf mit EQ.

Before I start making clothes with my fabric mart purchases I will make a quilt first. My brother and his wife in Mexico are expecting their first child in July, and of course I have to make a quilt for the baby. I decided to make Ohio Star blocks, a classic pattern which I like very much. I drew a design in EQ.

For the stars I will use my self-dyed fabrics which give me a nice palette to choose from. I have six weeks until we go on vacation (and the baby is due). That should be enough to make up 25 blocks and turn them into a quilt.

Für die Sterne will ich meine selbstgefärbten Stoffe verwenden, da habe ich eine schöne Palette. Und bis zum Urlaub (und der Geburt des Babys) sind es noch sechs Wochen, das sollte doch reichen für einen Quilt aus 25 Sternen.

Stoffmarkt in Potsdam

In Potsdam war Holländischer Stoffmarkt, und mit den Zick-Zack-Zicken war ich dort auf Schnäppchenjagd. Hier ist meine Ausbeute:

I bought this fabric with a blouse in mind.

I don't know what I will do with these three pre-cut pieces but they announced they would sell three pieces for the price of two when I passed their booth so I just had to buy them, right? We will see what they will become, maybe a blouse and skirts.

Diese drei Coupons habe ich gekauft, ohne recht zu wissen, was ich damit soll. Als ich an dem Stand vorbeiging, kündigte der Verkäufer gerade an, dass es jetzt drei Coupons zum Preis von zweien gäbe, da musste ich doch einfach zuschlagen. Mal sehen, was daraus wird, vielleicht eine Bluse und Röcke.

Und dieser Stoff war das absolute Schnäppchen. Mir schwebt ja seit einiger Zeit vor, eventuell mal einen Trenchcoat zu nähen, und für 2,-€/m habe ich nicht lange überlegt und gleich drei Meter gekauft.

This fabric was the best deal of the day. I have been thinking about making a trenchcoat for some time now, and the price was so good that I bought three meters right away.

And finally I bought a navy batik for a quilt I intend to make in the near future.

Als letztes habe ich noch einen dunkelblauen Batikstoff gekauft, der ist für einen Quilt gedacht, den ich demnächst nähen will.

Fortschritt

Auch wenn das Papiermodell gut saß, habe ich vorsichtshalber doch noch ein Probemodell genäht. Ich bin mir noch nicht so sicher, ob ich mich auf meine Erkenntnisse aus dem gefalteten Papierschnitt so verlassen kann. Ich weiß, das Probemodell ist schlecht gebügelt und die Ärmel sind auch nicht gut eingesetzt, aber grundsätzlich passt es.

Even though I liked the fit of the paper model I made a muslin nevertheless. I am not quite sure yet how reliable my paper pattern constructions are. I know that I didn't iron the muslin well and the sleeves are set in poorly, but it basically fits.

I cut the fabric right away, stitched all the seams and darts of the front and back pieces and joined the shoulder seams. So far, I like it very much.

Also habe ich gleich zugeschnitten und schon mal Vorder- und Rückenteile zusammengenäht und die Schulternähte geschlossen. Bis jetzt gefällt mir die Jacke sehr gut.

Das Ergebnis

... vom Färbefest zeige ich heute. Ich finde, es ist eine schöne Palette geworden. Die Farben sind zwar wieder ein bißchen zu bonbonmäßig für meinen Geschmack, aber sonst gefallen sie mir gut.

Here are my dyed fabrics. I think it is a nice palette. The colors are a little too candy-like for my taste but otherwise I am happy with the result.

Färbefest in Michendorf

Heute hat Kerstin uns zum Färbefest in ihren Garten eingeladen. Es war zwar fast ein bißchen zu warm, aber wir hatten viel Spaß.

Kerstin invited us to her garden today to dye some fabrics. It was almost a little too hot but we had lots of fun.

Jacke 113 aus Burda 03/2007

Aus dem pinkfarbenen Stoff, den ich bei Karstadt unbedingt mitnehmen musste, will ich eine Jacke machen, und zwar Modell 113 aus der Burda 03/2007. Der Schnitt ist für meinen Geschmack allerdings ein wenig zu kurz, deshalb habe ich ihn ein bißchen verlängert und auch sonst meine üblichen Anpassungen vorgenommen.

I want to make a jacket from the pink fabric I bought last month. I ordered some Burda WOF back issues and decided on jacket 113 from the March 2007 issue. The jacket is a little short for my taste, so I lengthened the pattern and made my usual alterations.

Then I folded a paper model following the "Fit for Real People" instructions. I am satisfied with the fit but I still have doubts about my ability to correctly interpret the paper model.
Danach habe ich nach "Fit for Real People" ein Papiermodell gefaltet. Ich finde, es sitzt ganz gut, obwohl ich noch nicht 100%ig von meinem Fähigkeiten überzeugt bin, das Papiermodell richtig zu interpretieren.

Viele neue Stoffe...

... haben in letzter Zeit ihren Weg zu mir gefunden. Hier sind die, die ich in Wahlsdorf gekauft bzw. geschenkt bekommen habe.

Quite a few new fabrics found their way into my stash recently. I bought a few in Wahlsdorf and received a few more for my birthday.

Then my order from Bighorn Quilts arrived, a colorful selection for Sophie's quilt.

Dann ist meine Bestellung von Bighorn Quilts eingetroffen, ein buntes Sortiment für Sophies Quilt.

Und ich war noch bei Hüco, wo ich Futter und Knöpfe gekauft habe. Den blauen Stoff mit dem Ginkgo und den weißen, den man auf dem Bild nicht so gut erkennen kann, habe ich schon letztes Jahr auf dem Holländischen Stoffmarkt gekauft.

And I went to Hüco here in Berlin to buy lining and buttons. The blue ginkgo fabric and the white one that did not photograph well are from last year's fabric market in Potsdam.

Tasche mit Lasche

In Wahlsdorf habe ich angefangen, mir eine neue Tasche zu nähen. Jetzt ist sie fertig, passend zu meiner neuen Leidenschaft für pink. Das Multicolor-Garn, das ich zum Quilten genommen habe , hat Anke mir geschenkt hat.

In Wahlsdorf I started a new project, a bag. It is finished now, and I love it very much. I quilted it with a beautiful multicolor thread that Anke gave me for my birthday.
