Schlecht geplant

... habe ich den Schmetterlingsquilt... ich hatte nur die generelle Idee und die Blockgröße festgelegt. Als ich dann überlegte, in welchen Farben ich die Schmetterlinge nähen wollte, wusste ich nicht, wie ich die fertigen Blöcke dann zusammensetzen wollte. Böser Fehler. Ich hätte wissen sollen, dass das für mich nicht funktioniert, ich brauche immer einen Plan. Als die Blöcke dann fertig waren, habe ich sie herumgeschoben und bin zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass ich sie gern wie einen Regenbogen oder ein Colour Wheel (wie heißt das eigentlich auf Deutsch... Farbkreis?) angeordnet hätte. Dummerweise lagen dann aber immer zwei blaue Blöcke nebeneinander in einer Ecke, irgendwie ging das nicht anders, und das gefiel mir nicht.

I didn't really plan the butterfly quilt very much... other than the block sizes and the general layout idea. When I chose the colours for the blocks, I had no idea how I would arrange them. Big mistake. I should have known that I am not the make it up as you go along type, that never works for me. I played around with the finished blocks and decided that I liked it best when they were arranged like a rainbow or colour wheel. The only problem was that I had two blue blocks next two each other in the lower right corner, and I couldn't figure out how to fix that.

So I took them all to the library last week and let the others play with it. Cathy and Ciska quickly came up with a random distribution of colours, then Ursula laid them out from light to dark. While both options are good ideas I still wanted my rainbow to work. Ciska helped me lay out the blocks one more time, and we decided that there is only one way to make this layout work: make another purple block. And take out one of the others and either turn it into a pillow, a wall hanging or add it to the back of the quilt. 

Also habe ich die Blöcke letzte Woche mit zum Treffen in die Bücherei genommen und die anderen damit spielen lassen. Cathy und Ciska haben sie bunt durcheinander gewürfelt, dann hat Ursula sie von hell nach dunkel sortiert. Geht alles, aber irgendwie wollte ich doch lieber meinen Regenbogen haben. Ciska half mir dann, die Blöcke noch einmal so auszulegen, wir schoben ein paar Farben hin und her und kamen schließlich zu dem Ergebnis, dass es nur eine Lösung gab: Es muss ein weiterer lila Block her. Dafür muss dann eine andere Farbe weichen, daraus kann dann ein Kissen entstehen oder ein kleiner Wandbehang, oder er kommt einfach auf die Rückseite des Quilts.
