Dinkelratte

Seit ich mit meiner Dinkelmaus nach Hause kam, erzählt mein Sohn, dass sein Nacken ja auch soooo verspannt wäre. Den Wink mit dem Zaunpfahl habe ich verstanden und ihm dieses Exemplar genäht, das er als Ratte bezeichnet. Offenbar ist eine Ratte männlicher als eine Maus??? :-)


Ever since I came home with my mouse filled with spelt my son has been complaining that his shoulders are also very tense... I got the hint and made this blue one for him. He calls it a rat, a rat seems to be more masculine than a mouse??? :-)

Verrückte Elche

Vor einigen Jahren habe ich diese verrückten Elche im Kranz genäht. Jedes Jahr im Advent schmücken sie meine Tür. Sie sind vielleicht nicht gerade der Inbegriff von Weihnachten, aber ich finde sie lustig.

A few years ago I made these crazy moose in a wreath. Every year in December I put them up on my door. They might not be a very solemn incarnation of the spirit of Christmas but I think they are funny.

Weihnachtskarten im Akkord

... habe ich an diesem Wochenende hergestellt. Mehr als das Anfangsstadium zeige ich noch nicht, inzwischen bin ich aber fast fertig. Sie müssen bloß noch alle umzackelt werden. Und ja - ich habe auch schon fast alle Weihnachtsgeschenke :-)

I made all my Christmas cards this weekend. Of course I will not show more than the beginning now, but I am almost done with them. They just need to be zigzagged around the edges. And yes - I am almost done with my Christmas shopping, too :-)

Wahlsdorf-Täschchen überarbeitet

Die beiden Täschchen, die ich in Wahlsdorf genäht habe, habe ich noch ein wenig überarbeitet. Ich fand sie ungequiltet ein bißchen lappig, und außerdem schlug das Futter innen Falten, das hat mir nicht gefallen. Also habe ich die Seitennähte wieder aufgetrennt, ein bißchen gequiltet und alles wieder zusammengenäht. Jetzt bin ich zufrieden.

I wasn't completely satisfied with the small purses I made in Wahlsdorf. They were a little too soft for my taste, and I didn't like the wrinkles in the lining. So I undid the side seams, quilted everything and stitched the seams closed again. Now I really like them.

Neue Garnquelle

Am letzten Wochenende war das blaue Garn, das mich so zur Verzweiflung gebracht hatte, alle. Es hatte sich ja schon angedeutet, dass es nicht für den ganzen Quilt reichen würde, die Pebbles sind dann einfach doch zu klein. Ich hatte es ursprünglich in Wahlsdorf gekauft, aber leider hatten sie es nicht mehr in blau, als wir vor zwei Wochen dort waren.

Last weekend I ran out of the blue thread that drove me crazy when I started quilting the water parts of my October quilt. I was pretty sure that one spool wouldn't be enough once I had chosen the small pebbling design. I had bought it in Wahlsdorf but they didn't have it in blue anymore when we were there two weeks ago.

My first idea was to use a variegated Madeira embroidery thread instead but this thread doesn't contain any really dark blue parts, so it didn't work. I checked my usual online stores but none of them carried that Gütermann thread. Google then pointed me to a store with a huge selection of threads. I also ordered another spool of the variegated thread Anke gave me last year and a few spools of Madeira embroidery thread that I neede anyway, otherwise the postage would have been too expensive.

Zuerst habe ich versucht, ein blaues Madeira-Garn als Ersatz zu nehmen, aber da fehlte der richtig dunkelblaue Teil, so dass ich diese Idee wieder verworfen habe. Also musste eine neue Rolle von dem Gütermann-Garn her. Die Online-Shops, bei denen ich sonst bestelle, hatten es nicht, also war dann Google dran. Dabei bin ich auf den Nähpark gestoßen, der ein sehr großes Garnsortiment führt. Damit sich das Porto lohnt, habe ich noch eine Rolle von dem Multicolor-Garn bestellt, das Anke mir letztes Jahr geschenkt hat, und mehrere Rollen Madeira-Stickgarn, die ich sowieso brauchte.

Am Sonntagabend habe ich bestellt und mit Paypal bezahlt, am Mittwoch traf das Päckchen ein. Garnbestellungen lohnen sich zwar nicht wirklich in kleinen Mengen, aber den Shop behalte ich trotzdem im Hinterkopf, falls ich mal wieder auf der Suche nach einem bestimmten Garn bin.

I ordered Sunday night and payed via Paypal right away, my threads arrived on Wednesday. It is not really efficient for me to order thread online since I usually just need one or two spools but I will definitely remember this store if I am looking for a specific thread again.

Die besten Plätze...

... finden doch immer die Katzen. Gerade habe ich dieses entzückende Bild vorgefunden. In der Kiste befinden sich meine Hexagons, und das Kissen darauf, auf dem Jessie liegt, lege ich mir beim Nähen auf dem Sofa als Tischersatz auf die Knie. Und natürlich muss Sally daneben liegen und aufpassen, ob dieser tolle Platz nicht bald für sie frei wird...

My cats always find the most comfortable places. I just walked into the sewing room to find this adorable picture. The box contains my hexagons, and while sitting on the sofa and sewing I put the pillow occupied by Jessie right now on my knees to serve as a table to sort the hexagons. And of course Sally has to watch closely in case that great resting place becomes available for her...

Edit: After posting the first picture and returning to the sewing room I found Sally under the table. Obviously she gave up on waiting for the pillow to become available and chose my bolt of muslin with my husband's sweater on top as her new resting place :-)
Edit: Mittlerweile hat Sally das Warten auf das Kissen wohl aufgegeben und sich unter den Tisch gelegt - auf meinen Ballen Nessel mit dem Sweatshirt meines Mannes darauf :-)

Trenchcoat 103 aus Burda 02/2007

Heute liefere ich noch ein Teil nach, dass ich im Frühjahr genäht habe, als ich nicht gebloggt habe. Ich hatte mir ja schon letztes Jahr auf dem Stoffmarkt einen Schnäppchenstoff zugelegt mit der Idee im Hinterkopf, einen Trenchcoat daraus zu nähen. Ausgewählt habe ich Mantel 103 aus der Februar-Burda 2007.

This is a project I made this spring while I was not blogging. Last year at the fabric market I got a good deal on a fabric which I bought with a trenchcoat in mind. I chose coat 103 from the February 2007 issue of Burda WOF.

I love the details, especially the gathered skirt part. This might not exactly be a classic trenchcoat but I like it. It is not a particularly fitted piece of clothing so I did not have to fuss much about alterations. And since we had to wait for summer until the end of June this year I already got to wear it a lot.

Mir gefallen die Details so gut, besonders das eingereihte Rockteil. Das mag zwar kein klassischer Trenchcoat mehr sein, aber mir gefällt's. Da das Teil nicht besonders passformsensibel ist, waren auch die Änderungen schnell gemacht. Und weil der Sommer in diesem Jahr bis Ende Juni auf sich warten ließ, konnte ich den Mantel auch schon häufig tragen.

Zicken-Wochenende in Wahlsdorf

Dieses Wochenende war wieder Treffen der Zick-Zack-Zicken in Wahlsdorf. Diesmal habe ich die Zeit genutzt und lauter Kleinigkeiten genäht, zu denen ich sonst nicht komme.

This weekend we had another Zick-Zack-Zicken retreat in Wahlsdorf. I made a few of those little things that I never get around to actually sew.

Anke brought the small purse she presented a couple of weeks ago in her blog. It spread like a virus, and this is Sunday afternoon's presentation of all the purses we made this weekend.

Anke hatte dieses Täschchen bereits in ihrem Blog präsentiert, und in Wahlsdorf griff das Virus um sich. Am Sonntag kurz vor Schluss konnten wir diese Ausbeute präsentieren.

Sabine und ich haben spontan ein Schlüsseltäschchen genäht. Als Inspiration diente das von Anke, den Schnitt haben wir uns selbst gebastelt und ein paar kleine Änderungen vorgenommen. Hier kommt das Ergebnis.

Sabine and I decided on the spur of the moment to make a little purse to hold our keys. We used Anke's for inspiration, drew the pattern ourselves and made a few alterations. This is what it looks like.

This mouse filled with spelt has been on my project list for quite some time. I even bought the spelt last year but never got the sewing done. This was the first project I tackled in Wahlsdorf, and it didn't even take me long to make it. I put it into the microwave right away last night after I got home and then onto my tense shoulders.

Eine Dinkelmaus wollte ich schon ewig nähen, der Dinkel lag auch schon lange herum, nur zum Nähen bin ich nie gekommen. In Wahlsdorf habe ich mich jetzt aufgerafft, und siehe da, es ging ganz schnell. Gestern abend kam sie auch gleich in die Mikrowelle und dann auf meine verspannten Schultern.

Daisies

Nachdem ich erneut erfolglos versucht habe, aus meiner Mohnblumenzeichnung eine Karte zu machen, habe ich nun stattdessen "Daisies" produziert. Das Design basiert auf dem Quilt "Springtime Daisies" von Tracey Browning, der im Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazin Vol 9 No 10 abgebildet war. Hier ist der Quilt zu sehen, allerdings ist das Foto wohl ein bißchen dunkel geworden. Nachdem auch die Daisies zu klein waren, um sie zu applizieren, habe ich sie freihand mit der Maschine gestickt.

I made another unsuccessful attempt to turn my poppy design into a greeting card and came up with these Daisies instead. The design is based on the quilt "Springtime Daisies" by Tracey Browning which was featured in Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazine Vol 9 No 10. You can see the quilt here but I think the picture turned out a little too dark. Since the daisies were too small to appliqué them onto the card I free motion embroidered them.

Passformfehler

Dieses Buch hat mich letztendlich auf die richtige Spur gebracht, was die letzte Falte am Rücken meines Blusengrundschnitts betraf. Hier sind, ähnlich wie bei "Fit for Real People" Abbildungen von Passformfehlern enthalten, es wird deren Ursache und Beseitigung besprochen. An einem Herrensakko fand ich dann "Schrägzüge vom Schulterblatt zur Seitennaht", und siehe da, das ist genau das Problem, das ich habe. Und nachdem ich einmal wusste, dass die hängende Schulter die Ursache dafür ist, habe ich die entsprechende Änderung auch in dem Kleider-und-Blusen-Buch von Müller & Sohn gefunden. Bei der Fülle der Informationen hatte ich wohl Tomaten auf den Augen :-)

This book on fitting problems finally brought the revelation about the drag lines my blouse sloper was still showing. Similar to "Fit for Real People" this book shows pictures of wrinkles and drag lines and then discusses the source and solution. A sports coat showed exactly the same drag lines from the shoulder blade to the side seam. After I found out that this was caused by a sloping shoulder, I even found the alteration in my blouse-and-dress-construction-book. I had just not seen it before, too much information in that book, I guess :-)

Anyway, a first alteration try already gave me a good result, the drag lines are gone on one side of the muslin. The other still shows a little, but this is consistent with the body graph I made last year, my shoulders are not even.

Jedenfalls hat ein erster Versuch schon ein gutes Ergebnis gezeigt, auf der einen Seite ist die Falte weg. Auf der anderen Seite muss ich noch ein bißchen basteln, das stimmt auch mit dem Body Graph vom letzten Jahr überein, eine Schulter hängt mehr als die andere.

Voll motiviert bin ich zu Hüco gefahren und habe Stoffe gekauft. Irgendwie bin ich wieder bei rosa gelandet :-) Zuerst hatte ich einen moosgrünen Wollstoff in der Hand, dann fand ich den Blusenstoff mit den Blümchen und habe mich dann spontan umentschieden und rosa Schurwolle genommen. Und vom Stoffmarkt im letzten Jahr habe ich noch einen grauen Stoff für eine Hose. Das wird auch wieder ein Abenteuer, eine Hose habe ich noch nie genäht, da ich ja selten welche trage.

This gave me the motivation to go fabric shopping again, so I went to Hüco and somehow ended up with another pink fabric :-) I was going for a moss green wool but then came across the cotton floral and chose a matching pink wool instead. And I still have a grey wool fabric from last year's fabric market that would make nice pants. But this will be another day's adventure, I never made pants before in my life since I rarely wear them.
